at the conference title?

What do we have to do? What is the minimum? 5-1? Sweep Kansas and take 2 of 3 from Missouri?

Probably would have to sweep them both...Two years ago we lost one Big XII series all year (to tech), and lost the Big XII...Ya know why, we didn't sweep a single series (if memory serves)We've already dropped two series, so the regular season Big XII is almost out of the question. Best chance at the XII is to win the tourney...

I am afraid that is so, pretty much. Chances are slim. If we were to somehow lose the KU series that could be to baseball what tech was to football.

i am really disappointed in this club. i was looking foward to a great season at Olsen. now, im not sure what to expect. ill still route for the aggies, but i wont get my hopes up

A sweep of the next two conference series (which is not likely) would keep us in the hunt, but the odds would be 100:1 against us winning the league. You might as well forget about the title chase, and just focus on winning enough games to get in the NCAA tournament, then maybe winning enough to host a regional.

With this offense, the series in Missouri is going to be very tough. And also with this offense, I cannot predict a sweep of anyone including KU or KSU, because they usually have at least 1 decent pitcher.

The goal is to get 14 conference wins. And at least 12 before the BU & UT series. No doubt we need a sweep of KU this weekend.

We have never won a Big XII tournament so I wouldn’t get my hopes up for that title either.

so tu is out of the running too I guess, since they started 0-3, now are 2-3... if tech takes it from them today, their season is over as is ours from most of the post here.

Are you kidding me. Have you seen the teams that tu has betten. Have you seen the numbers there team has put on the score board. I aint saying the season is over but if you are going to compare these 2 teams at least look at how they have played all year and look at the offensive numbers texas has put up.

BeatHellOutOfTU: It's a simple matter of looking at the schedule and seeing whose played whom, and what's left. No doubt, a sweep by Baylor put the Horns in a hole, particularly if Baylor were to start to run away with the lead (OSU put the brakes on that, for now anyway, last night), however, that's just one series which can be overcome if the Horns get some help. We've now lost two series, and they didn't even figure to be our two toughest sereis (Baylor and Texas at the end should be). If you're worried about winning the Big XII championship (which is certainly a goal for every team starting the season, but not the sine qua non of a successful season), then we are, in fact, in very desparate straits. If your goal is to get to Omaha, we're playing ourselves into a position where we're going to have to do it on the road, and we better win a few games before we make those post-season plans at all. That's just a realistic assessment of where we stand right now.

Beat the Hell loves to compare us to Texas, even though we are not in the same breath as Texas in Baseball. It is not even close. They have been to the title game 2 years in a row, and won the whole damn thing once.

CJ: the past is the past. Personally, I think the Horns have the potential to have a year a lot like our's last year, where we had an unbelievable record in non-conference play, but then a lack of pitching depth hurt us in conference play. As long as they win enough to play the regional in Austin, I wouldn't bet against them getting to Omaha, but they are a significantly weaker team this year.

Yes, but the point is that they have earned the reputation of being a premier program. One that may get a little lee-way because of their recent history. We have done none of this. Not even close. We have not earned the right to that same respect that they get.

What does Reputation have to do with Winning???

TU lost 3 ( and have another game today... if they win, they will be 3-3 we will be 2-4 they have played at home and we havent, and so what if I copmpare us to tu they are our rival, and they are very good in baseball... I am just saying even some of the best programs have bad starts. We have lost 4 in conference... neither teams season is over.... Abd yeah look at who played who we had the tougher scheduale IMO. But It dosent really matter what you do in conference/ non conf play All that matters is making it to the Post season.... Although it is noce to win the conference it is more important to get to a regional.

If you win the conference you get a regional. PERIOD.

The point is, as fans, we might be a little more lax if we had been to Omaha the last 2 years or even more often than twice, EVER, and won a grand total of 1 game.

^^^ there are so many teams that dont go to Omaha, I think may of yall have too big hopes, It is nice to go, but very hard to get their... we will make it soon... thats like saying we should be in the final 4/8 in college basketball every 2 years, or in a BCS bowl every 2 years, that hasnbt happened in those sports in a long time, and probably woint for a while. At least in baseball we are consistantly in the post Season and have a shot.

Yeah, all of those northern and eastern eastern schools have the same shot at Omaha that they have at the final 4 in basketball. We have no inherent advantage. All of the baseball talent is in the northeast and the weather is much more conducive to baseball up there--just look at the history of the college game. I’m amazed that we even have a baseball program with so much going against us.
