This happened in a 9U game over the weekend.
Situation: Runner on 3rd, 2 out. Pitcher throws ball in the dirt and slowly gets away from the catcher but runner doesn't try to advance and heads back to 3rd. Ball slowly rolls to the fence and finds a small hole and goes under and out of play.
Does the runner automatically score regardless of his intent which was to stay at 3rd? Is there any wiggle room or umpire discretion due to the field being poorly maintained and a ball going under the fence directly behind home plate?
