This is the right answer. Northwestern doesn't have national championship aspirations. Pretty sure they don't even have Illinois championship aspirations. They play baseball and need coaches to do so but you don't have to be the best of the best to coach there.

If he did, as rumored, mail it in the last month or so of the season, then I'm not exactly a fan of his going forward.

Of course. I would agree. But don't always trust rumors, especially when it doesn't make practical sense and will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but we've still yet to see irrefutable proof of the shenanigans our previous head coach was (allegedly) pulling before he left for another job. Those rumors don't seem to have died.

NU finished last ... that's right, last ... in the BIG10 this year, with a conference records of 8-22 and an overall record of 21-30-1. That's worse than God-awful. Anything that gets NU out of the cellar would be an improvement.

I will disagree with both of you. Kelly did a good job his first year. This past year there wete a lot of injuries to the pitching staff that hurt the performance of the team. Kelly has been treated unfairly IMO and I let him know that. I wish him well moving forward and everyone else should too.
