Anyone think a weekly College GameDay for baseball would help drive viewership, or is viewership for the sport too regional? I know people always want more viewers and more fans, but just like I don't think you can get people in the Northeast to suddenly care about college football the way people in the South do, I'm unsure you can get them to embrace college baseball the way we do.

I do think it is really regionalized. ESPN does have a weekly show called Rally Cap that is just about SEC baseball & softball but I'm not sure if a national show would do better?

Build the SEC. I doubt seriously right now is a great time to emphasize national.

If they did a game day style show on campus for big matchups majority of them would be at SEC schools with the occasional ACC match up to mix it up

UCLA & USC, Kansas, UNC, GT, Bricktown, Oregon, Stanford, heck a bunch of the semi-recent good Cali schools all would be good spots for it.

How about showing more games on the broadcast channels instead of SEC+ or ESPN+? I'd rather watch ANY college game over omega ball, or any of the stuff they show on the U for the eleventy billionth time.

Some of those schools average dozens of fans & faculty per game.....I just don't think they care about the sport

Squeeze Play on Friday nights would be awesome. Most games start between 4pm and 7pm. Couldn't do it on Sat and Sun though.

It's pretty cheap to get darn near every college game if you're interested. I watch probably 6 or 7 every week during the season. Seems like a bargain to me.

This is the problem. College sports in general is becoming very regional with the left coast simply not caring anymore. I'm talking about fans. Oregon and Oregon State care but UCLA and USC don't draw well except when they play each other. UCLA regional averaged less than 1800 for their three games, their Oregon series about 1400, their USC series about 1700. We have people throwing a fit when we have less than 4000 show on a Tuesday in February. College baseball is a Texas/southeastern sport. College hockey is a northeastern/midwestern sport. Neither has appeal nationally other than pockets of fans then only when they're winning.

You are correct about the regional aspect. Arizona State has a great history but their D1 hockey team has better facilities and out draws baseball by a lot.

To be clear: you have access to all of the licensing but disagree with ESPN's programming due mainly to quality or convenience?

They certainly aren't showing reruns because they are more interesting but to maximize revenue across their brands. I have no clue how advertising is working for them when streaming, but being able offload content to streaming to reach specific audiences and even to justify the streaming subscription fees is the only way for them to survive the cord cutting that is continuing.

If you are asking if I have access to SEC+....yes.....If you are also asking if I have access to ESPN+....no. So any game not in an SEC ballpark, I don't get. Yes, I can undo the padlock on my wallet.....but I think the question was....how can we ride the current interest in college baseball. My thought.....show more games on the U instead of the same 30for30 for the 100th time.

ESPN Ultimate includes ESPN+ content.

I recognize that the experience of using the ESPN app is not as smooth or convenient as YTTV (I use DirecTV only with their streaming app which is similar), but you should not need to pay more.

Also note ESPN Unlimited integration with YTTV app is described as "is coming."

yes...I know about that. What point are you trying to make? Why push to show games on the linear channels when I can just watch them on the ESPN app?

ESPN would have to give up playing softball 24/7 in order to have a baseball game on. I wonder what their tv number would be if they hide the games behind another layer of apps like baseball.

I think you guys are missing my point. I agree the subscription is worth the money…I'm not arguing that. I thought the OP was about the popularity of college baseball….snd what can be done with that popularity. Apologies if I'm misguided.

It really is (but don't let them hear us say that!)
