Yeah, we'll probably go anyway since it's Malcolm's birthday weekend.
I hope we get out of the Houston tourney rotation soon. We never get more than one marquee opponent when we go there. I don't understand playing UH (or Rice, Texas State, etc.) on a weekend when they're readily available to play on a Tuesday.

It started as a SWC reunion tournament (was in 2003?) back when Rice was on top of the world. It's transformed over the years into meh. They really aren't competing with the two venues in North Texas.
I don't want to say this tournament is a stinker, but it's at least aromatic.

It's been losing big names for a while. Not even Shriners wants to be a part of it anymore. We need to stop doing this tournament.

I'll say it's a stinker. Louisiana is the only other team there that made the field of 64 this past season…Louisville was in the CWS in '25 and has consistently been good to very good in the last 20 years, so maybe last year was just a hiccup.
UConn, Utah and UH don't move the needle much. Utah has 5 regional appearances all-time (2 since 1960) and UH hasn't been to one in almost a decade. UConn has at least been in the postseason fairly regularly in recent years.
It's better than a weekend against a 300+ RPI killer, I'll
give it that much.
This lineup almost necessitates that you replace a Tennesee Tech weekend series with an Oregon to get a similar RPI (only slight hyperbole). That UCLA, Arizona St, VaTech 3 game neutral series is going to be far and away higher than this one.

And that was all well and good at the time. But with Arlington, Round Rock, and Frisco stepping their games up, it's time for Houston to do the same. Heck, Corpus Christi hosted a solid field this past season (or maybe it was 2025.) Anyway, Houston has got to get away from their regional scheduling and do something to attract a full field of top teams. Or maybe host multiple weekends like Arlington does.

Earley has said he likes doing these weekends at big league parks because A) it gives the raw team a taste of what an away game feels like before conference games start, and B) it allows kids who will never make it to the big leagues a chance to play on a big league field at least once.
I don't know if you saw some of the videos of the players this year walking on to Globe Life for the first time, but the awe and joy on their face was absolutely heartwarming, and made the difficulties we had sting just a little less.
Having said all that..... I don't think we need to feel stuck playing in any given park if the competition ends up hurting us in the long run. I'm sure there's a contract we need to fulfill plus it makes one less decision Earley has to make for now while he is still making adjustments. I'd love to see some changes within the next couple years to this particular part of the schedule.

I'm curios why the Padres, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Braves, and Marlins don't host similar tournaments. Doesn't Seattle have a retractable roof? If so, they could host as well.

I don't think college athletics has a big following in California. Way too consumed with other things and expensive for fans to travel to. Seattle certainly doesn't care about college baseball. I think Miami is a major city that is much like California. Look they can't even sell out Hurricane football games. Baseball certainly isn't going to deliver crowds.
I think Arizona is a no go because you don't want to compete with Spring Training. While it might make sense most are in town for MLB games, and I don't think you will get them to a college tourney.
The one ballpark that would do well is in Atlanta. You are right in the middle of the SEC and ACC where college baseball matters and is very drivable for many folks

We have two college tournaments every year in Arizona, both on opening weekend and then the facilities are full go for spring training.
The field for the tournament at Surprise Stadium has been announced. Nebraska, Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara and Vanderbilt.
The other tournament is run by MLB and has 8 teams which haven't been announced yet. 15 teams have spring training here so there are ample nice facilities around town. They play this tournament at different stadiums to accommodate the larger field. Typically any northern teams stay and play each other and Arizona, ASU and Grand Canyon during the following week.

But there are other options and believe it or not some of us far away would enjoy having the Aggies come to our towns. Not to mention some great trips for others.

Yeah, I have no problem calling it what it is. LSU will at least be interesting depending no how they reload.
I know you're devoted. I've sat through some miserable opening weekend weather in College Station over the years. Would you make a trip to Phoenix if the competition was good, the venues were nice and the weather was virtually certain to be perfect? Do you think it would be attractive to others?
I'm really looking forward to the Aggies being here for football next year.

It would definitely be interesting. It would have to fit in with my work schedule. When we play 3 dog nonconference series at home, and a neutral site with interesting competition, I will often make make opening weekend and the neutral site series, and skip the other two home series. One plus for Phoenix would be that, although you have to fly, there are lots of flights, so I might be able to fly out Friday morning and back Sunday night.
