Some fun ones!!

I wish A&M would get back to the old Continental classic format where we bring 3 teams into Olsen for a weekend and everyone plays a full round robin.

We could still play a Globe/Enron classic, but replace a low energy #300 RPI series with a 3 tier weekend. Bringing in West Virginia, Penn, Milwaukee for a March series and everyone playing everyone 1x on the weekend would be fantastic.

It would provide a better challenge than our current series and provide a nice Road/Neutral RPI chance for some of those teams without just being cannon fodder. In that hypothetical Penn/MKE would have a real chance to win a game and avoid the 5-24 hole that they found themselves in this year.

A&M vs a quality Northern team like WVU, Purdue, Michigan would be very fun on a Friday night.

I assume this is the year we go to Houston instead of DFW? Any chance we go to Vegas for something different? So far LSU is set for Vegas but no one else announced yet.

ETA: I guess with LSU already in Vegas we won't go as they only take 4 teams.

Love this. But really we just need to quit the 300 level weekend opponents early. Killer to OOC metrics.

Get Oregon or Oregon State to come for a weekend. Or Carolina schools. Hell - even Big 10. All are trying to find southern games I'd think.

The lower tier school scheduling is a real crap shoot. A Penn/Columbia could fall anywhere between 80 and 300 and you're just hoping they're good (but not good enough to actually beat you), and that they schedule well. If you school a normally pretty decent team and they have a down year, so be it. Bad luck.

But we had a few we scheduled in recent years that we absolutely knew were anchors on the RPI and that simply has to go.

Edit: and yes, there's plenty of quality Northern schools, or even Big12/BIG schools that need RPI and warmer weather.

And it meant they had to run an absolute gauntlet to get to Omaha. Which makes it all the more impressive that they did it. But no one would ask for that path if being a host was the alternative.

We played 2 in Tenn Tech and Oakland. Likely cost us the 8 seed. There is 0 upside to scheduling those games. People griped about Prairie View but one game late, midweek against a system school makes a crap ton more sense than SIX games against those two schools.

I'm OK with this field as long a we don't face Cougar High, even OK with this as long as we don't face them in a midweek game. Louisville and ULaLa are traditionally good to excellent programs. UConn while not a school normally thinks of a a baseball school will likely not ding the RPI

I get that other SEC schools would created a bigger buzz around the tournament and likely more interesting matchups if one wanted to take in other games not involving the Aggies but we were not going to face a SEC team(s) if they were one of the teams making their way to Daiken Park.

I wonder if we will even be part of the Frisco or Round Rock Classics ever again. Personally I like the four team format better than six teams in that unless weather interferes, games will start as scheduled.

whelp, that is no fun. Still we get L'Ville and ULaLa which are traditionally two strong programs and unlikely to be a RPI drag and more likely to be a RPI positive. As stated before, as long as we don't have Cougar High as a midweek game this year I'm OK facing them at Daikin Park although it is a drag it is the last game on Sunday which always hurts attendance.

What I would like to see us try to get one or more of the northern schools coming down for the various Texas Classics as a midweek game(s). UConn the Tuesday or Wednesday before (or after) the Bolt Classic would be fun. If Rice can find a way to make such matchups happen, why not A&M?
