just WTF happened on that play?

I skimmed through the LSU post-game press conference, and I don't think the question was asked. I'd guess either a massive miscommunication, or TK was bunting for a hit and the runner on third (Kash?) didn't have a big enough lead to make a break for home. That half inning was a microcosm of our season.

What's important is that earley didn't see any quit in our guys

They didn't quit. They fought hard, and never changed their approaches at the plate no matter the results because it'll always work itself out eventually if you hit ball hard

I was also told they improved all season even though I was also told the players were not able to do what they were being told. So I'm still trying to figure out how these two statements align.

did we ever get an explanation from Earley...for, um, you know...most of the season?

My guess is the players screwed up and Earley isn't going to throw them under the bus in a press conference.

More likely it pertained to something Earley did or did not do. He knows he's under the gun. He's not going to a highlight a mistake.

After the Texas series he had no issue stating Royo messed up the bunt and did not bunt it where it was called.

I don't agree with this at all. I think it much more likely he reflected on the Royo comment and decided not to do it again.

I remember hearing interviews with him after the bama and Vandy series about what they were doing different offensively after struggling for multiple weeks in a row and he basically said "nothing has changed. Still keeping routines the same, no changes in philosophy Just try to hit better pitches and hit them hard"

Earley was inexperienced and his team was hungover all year. That's about it.
