So two series vs. #1, two series vs #2, three of the four series were on the road....

Those losses were on an knifes edge. Yes, they count on the loss column and no one cares about how close they were, but we're 6-6, that's pretty dang close to 8-2 or 9-3.

If this team can get both offense and defense to sync together at the same time, we got a real chance

Divining Rod

and the series we lost were all 1 run games.

Not that we don't have to own our terrible stretch, but by any reasonable of a committee considering how good or bad this team really is, there is hardly any better indicator than these four separate series all on the middle to bottom of the season.

That's basically what Ole Miss did in 2022…last team in and their offense finally clicked and they stormed through Omaha for a championship

This just proves that we are right there with the top teams in the country. I pity the poor host team that gets us as a 3 or 4 seed in their regional.

So much inaccuracy in this post.

Teams who went 1-8 vs. Bama, Vandy, and Kentucky aren't "right there" with the best teams in the league.

We won't be a 4-seed anywhere. Those are reserved for crappy auto-bid teams. We likely won't be a 3-seed, either. We'll play well down the stretch and get a 2, or we'll crap the bed and miss the dance.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

baseball is a long season. as others have alluded to teams that lost early in the season have gotten hot and won it all or made deep runs into the CWS. also your being very dismissive of 3 teams that will make the regionals and two that will most likely host. so to lose early minus arguably your best player and then turn it around mid season and play well is not unheard of.

i would agree with your sentiment on our seed if we keep winning.

What? I like it just fine…but a team who is 27-20 overall and below .500 in league play is not "right there" with the leaders. Yea, we've had 4 great weekends in SEC play - UT, Arky, S. Carolina, and LSU. But we've also had 4 terrible weekends in SEC play - Bama, Vandy, UK, and t.u. I never said I didn't like it. I just prefer to look at facts over focusing on only half of the SEC weekends we've played.

I think if the team we played last week had any other school on their jersey we would have won series if not swept.

It is easy to see two reasons we are a different team from those three bad early SEC series you noted.

Getting Sorrell back was one thing that helped.

Earley figured out his bullpen.

Agree. But those things don't make the bad weekends go away. And for NCAA seeding purposes, we'll be judged on the entirety of the season…not just a select few weekends that went our way.

Getting Sorrell back and being part of the turn around will be used as noting our present team is more like these last few weeks.

Just like losing key players can hurt a team.

You are right. The baseball season is based on one weekend. Good thing for us the last couple of weekends we are trending in the right direction. Aside from losing 3 to tu by a total of 3 runs, this team is trending upwards. Get on board and support them or GTFO….

But you're not looking at the facts. This isn't the same lineup who lost those first three weekends. Sorrell and Royo are massive upgrades over Farr and George

So we just ignore those weekends? That's not how RPI and post-season selections work.

this is the proper way to count it in baseball. All you gotta do is win 2 out of 3 in every series and you will be the NC. Every real player and coach knows this is the most important stat...just win the series.
RED AG 98
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think you are both correct.

We are rightly unranked, and still have to play our way into a regional where if we're lucky we'll be a 2.

However, in the past few weeks we are 6-6 versus 4 of the best teams in the country, with 3 of those series away. We're pitching like an elite team, playing much better defense, with a bipolar offense that might be really good or really bad. I think we've playing like one of the better teams in the country, but have no business being ranked as such because of the sins of the early season.

The goal remains to get into a regional and make some noise. We're setup very well for a Super versus anyone in the country. Getting there will be really difficult.

The way it's setting up, we're either going to be (in the Committee's eyes) either

a) one of the weakest #2 seeds or

b) one of the strongest #3 seeds

either one of those puts us against one of the strongest #1 seeds in the Regionals. So expect that.

I get your logic, but that's not really how they assign the 2 and 3 seeds. It's much more about minimizing travel for all of those teams as a whole than it is about balancing the strength of individual regionals. Remember, baseball generally isn't a revenue sport, so the committee tries to minimize travel costs where it can.

I see the difference. It's obvious we're better now than we were 5 or 6 weeks ago. What I'm saying is that we don't get to simply pick and choose which games we want to highlight and which games to dismiss. Like it or not, the games vs. Bama, Vandy, and UK count the same as the games vs. LSU, Arky, and Tennessee. Whether Sorrell was in the lineup or not, the games count the same.

Do you think we get to tell the committee to ignore the losses to Texas State, UTSA, New Mexico State, and Cal Poly because one of our studs wasn't playing? Or tell them that our coach hadn't figured out the bullpen yet?

Yea - anyone with a brain can see we're playing much better now than in February and early March. That's not even debatable. All I'm saying is until the regionals start, it's the overall body of work that matters, not just a few cherry picked weekends.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

also worth mentioning...

11 of 14 SEC teams made the field last year

none of them were in the "last four in"

3 mid-majors and 1 Big 12 team were the last four

the SEC's 13-17 teams made the field fairly comfortably
