Brauny's mentioned this several times, but it's incredible that the SEC doesn't have better or more professional officials. College baseball (and college athletics for that matter) is big enough to have full-time umpires.

There's WAY too much riding on these games for bad officiating to be a factor.

The HP umpire should be on his couch watching an off center view on TV or down the 3rd base line because no one is ever wrong from those vantage points.

I mean they instituted replay for a reason…

we didn't do ourselves any favors in these two games, but the plate umps have been really poor.

That last pitch was over the opposite box line and the catcher had to move it 8 inches to frame it. Sure, that's a strike....

No it wasn't. You saw a still frame from an angle that is very much different from a straight on angle, and even then it wasn't on the batter's box line.

Ags in denial because they can't figure out there old a#$$ of acoach is smarter than they are.

Yes the SEC umps are not good but both teams have to deal with it.

These umps are god awful terrible. But they weren't one sided. They were just consistently inconsistent for 18 innings. I don't believe the umpiring made a difference. But I damn sure believe it screwed players on both teams and made for a worse product for those paying to watch it.

There is literally no reason in 2025 to inject irrational human behavior into the one part of the game that you can control.

If the technology is there, why not?

If the 'purists' want a human umpire, I get it.

But with a reliable ABS, all the groans and complaints go away.

While I agree on this in general, I can watch the same pitches from the same off-angle view get called inconsistently and know the ump is inconsistent. I thought he really struggled with that outside corner to righties and almost always called that same pitch a strike to lefties.

To your point though, we didn't lose because of the umps. I watched the game on mute yesterday, announcer problem solved for at least one game.

Hoping the Aggie fans are waiting for this umpiring crew when they come to College Station. They need to get torched for the full three hours.

Well said....even with a bad angle you can still see inconsistantly called pitches

That's the point. If games were perfectly called there wouldn't be room for outside influence to have an influence in the outcomes of games.

It's why football games don't show you a dedicated camera to Offensive line.

It's why they don't always show you a penalty replay.

It's why coaches aren't allowed to comment on officiating.

Not hard to understand.

These are big league umpires compared to sec football officiating

The vast majority of these guys have MiLB experience. It is very hard to get into the SEC as an umpire these days without it.

First, I don't think it influences the game as much as most here but am still for some kind of automated strike zone.

Second, if we're being honest, it won't stop the *****ing here. Many posters truly believe there are orders for Texas, Alabama, whoever to get an edge. We just think that line of thinking is going to stop with an automated zone?

If I was an umpire, and I saw how fast tu took control of Sankey and the SEC, I would make the same calls they did. If umps want NCAA tournament money they know who to favor.

"Some umpires in high-profile conferences like the SEC can make as much as $100,000 per year, especially if they officiate high-stakes games and are selected for the NCAA tournament."

I don't think it's true that officials have gotten worse. It seems like officials are worse because we see 100% of the misses. Whereas in 2002 you saw two angles of a possible DPI on standard definition TV, shrugged your shoulders, and forgot about it, if you saw a replay at all.

If you could superimpose today's technology on 1998 SEC football you'd see alot of (and probably more of) what you see today. Missed holding calls, OL that flinches one millimeter, strike three called that's close but outside the K box - stuff that didn't register at the time because you literally couldn't see it.

We have more technology/replay review than ever, yet we gripe more than ever. Hint: we'll never be happy.

And no, I'm not an official

Feel free to not read it.

There is a very real problem with officiating, especially in baseball. It's objective- they miss a LOT of calls. People want that fixed. Not really unreasonable.

We definitely need the strike ball challenge rule IMHO
