This team has quit. Our AD panicked and we hired the wrong coach in the most short sighted decision ever

Yes.

I'd almost rather see what the players could do without a coach ala Bad News Bears in Breaking Training.

1 win against power 5 competition & we are heading into april.

Big time failure by AD to have a contingency plan in place, also allowed players to influence Coach selection

Now we need to buy out the complete coaching staff and start over. This is a colossal screw up.

Could be, but I'm still not willing to give up.

At first I thought it was a gut feeling. Now I'm starting to suspect that it's just denial.

What contingency plan would have fixed the fact that we didn't have an opening until June 26? You can do all the planning and talking to coaches that you want, but there wasn't a coach out there who would have been in a position to replace the talent we were going to lose to the transfer portal because of the timing. It made the job much less attractive than it will be this year, even if all our top players head for the portal, because the new guy will be able to get in the portal when plenty of talent is still available (and know he'll have a pretty low bar to clear in year one regarding expectations).

Agreed.

And everyone would have lost their minds if we didn't try to keep the talent we had on the roster.

The AD had an impossible decision to make, and it was going to be rough either way.

I was just thinking that my mind has shifted.

I was pretty firm in the camp he gets two years minimum. But now that the reality of a 1-11 SEC start is staring us in the face, I just don't know. I like to think I know what rational thought would say when it comes to money and logistics on contracts and whatnot. But this is also sports so the human element is just more wild all around.

I think I was of the kind that it was inevitable that we would start seeing some progress somewhere by now and I think it can be argued that glimmers have shown through from time to time. I just don't think it can be attributed solely to coaching though and it's a moot point regardless as none of it has translated to wins aside from one.

This is BAD. I say that as a pumper. And I just don't see anything from Earley and crew that indicates ANYTHING is going to be different from them for the rest of the season. Not a single damned thing. And trust me, I'm straining myself trying to find one.

If things stay this flat, I think he gets pulled at the end of the season now. I think you have to. Money and optics be damned. Maybe not mid but end.

Did Earley really say he didn't want to be a head coach? Thought I read that a while back

I'm an optimist and a pumper as well but unfortunately I think I am with you. I really didn't want to be there, and I wish nothing but the best for ME, but I'm just not sure this is recoverable in a timeframe of relevance. Gone are the days of getting 3+ years to figure it out; the portal has significantly changed that calculus.

Typical Aggie mismanagement. Bad AD hire; leads to bad HC coaches; leads to bad teams

Move on from what??

Jace hitting .278
Kash hitting .230
Kent hitting .230 and an error machine
Binderup hitting .162 for his 2nd year
Gavin Hurt
Caden hurt
Schott hurt
Farr not ready for SEC play
Galloway hitting .220 for 70% of the season.

This doesn't even quantify our relief pitching and how atrocious it's been.

If you really want to move on then you have your move on from all of this!!

Do you really think Mike Early is the reason for all of this??

It's his program so yes. When everyone underperforms what we know they are capable of you have to place the blame somewhere.

So who coaches Kiel, Bear, Hensler, Royo and Sorrel? They are all well above average this year?

Yeah, I would at least let Earley recruit for one offseason. He's kind of been stuck with this roster as late as we finished last year.

With the way Trev treats soccer and women's basketball, isn't it highly likely that he keeps Earley until he contract runs out in 3 years? Our AD is among the top penny pinching ADs in the country. Why would he make a change? Records are clearly irrelevant to him.

I don't follow recruiting, but I understood this to be the best team ever assembled. Or was TA just being TA? The ranking services seemed to think so.

I don't know the depths of baseball, but it seems like the team doesn't understand basic baseball. Fielding is atrocious.

Who else can you blame?

I know we have some injuries that are a big impact, but isn't this the lineup that everyone wanted and why we hired Earley so these guys wouldn't leave? I am honestly a little confused about all the talk regarding the lineup. We were applauding their loyalty (even in commercials for A&M) and now some are saying the lineup is no good.

Yesterday was perfect example. Top 8. Bases loaded. We played too deep. Ground ball become rbi infleid single. Playing up gets us out at home. Keeps game within reach.

Later in inning after KY put game away, we creep up; get the inning ended DP.

Even low level ESPN anmoumcers noticed it.

We panicked and wanted to try to save face so we plucked Earley back from Austin. 30th best choice?

I have to agree. I find it shameful that we talk about building champions and we allow what is going on in women's soccer and basketball. With all the talk about Buzz and now Earley, their should be two other coaches included in that conversation. I realize their is no comparison regarding revenue among those 4, but hard to listen to our building champion mantra and then watch what is happening across the board.

Maybe, but baseball is a unique circumstance. We made the hire for short term reasons because circumstances (trying to hire a new coach at the end of June when most players in the portal had already landed new positions, and our whole roster was likely to leave) left us with no good alternatives. Believe it or not, the job would be more attractive this year than it was on June 25, 2024.

There is also the fund raising factor, in that we are trying to raise funds to renovate the ballpark, starting with player facilities (something which needs to be done even if we do nothing else). If you tell your big donors baseball is not important enough to eat the final 3 years of Earley's deal (which is just slightly more than we received from Schlossnagle's buyout), then good luck getting them to cough up money for baseball capital improvements, or NIL. The folks who write the NIL checks have a particularly strong position; if they refuse to write NIL checks, then we won't have the funds to assemble a good roster for next year.

You have to put your pole in the sand. And for me it was pre-decided the KY series was the decision point.

After watching the entire series versus KY, it is blatantly clear this team is not improving whatsoever...in fact, they seem to continue to be spiraling out of control and Earley has little ability to influence change in the correct direction.

We are done. Still support our players but personally not investing any more time or money in something that provides zero return in terms of entertainment value. Just emotional trauma and BAS.

Wanted Earley to be successful so badly. But sorry, it is clear that he is over his head and his pitching coach was a very poor choice, too. Just very clear signs that Earley is beyond his element and experience level.
