I thought the Vols had a lot of lineup turnover from last year. Am I misremembering?

Yes, but so are we with Montgomery, Appel, Burton, Camarillo, and Chestnust gone. Like us, they're backfilling gaps with absolute studs.

Its in a non-public book. I suspect similar numbers will begin to show up soon on the big public sites.

That's fair. I think I'd take Tennessee, A&M and Arkansas vs the field right now.

It looks like we've done more than a good job replacing position players.

Question

Can we replace Aschenbeck and Cortez?

Probably not, but we can improve the offense and SP more than enough to overcome it and improve overall.

Still, good teams need a stud closer, perhaps Stewart can fill that role.

Agree completely on starting pitching.

It's hard for me to believe we can't come up with better options for games 2 and 3 starters than we had last year.

Good teams* win. Great teams cover. But our team takes you by surprise and ignores the odds! Unless our head coach is being hired by our hated rival…

Aside from Montgomery, everyone else for us that is no longer here were good, but not studs.

Tennessee lost more than we did.

Jackson Appel was first-team AA and SEC so I gotta disagree a little.

UT also had the #1 recruiting class in 24 (per PG). They may have done a little better job of replacing their talent.

My whole point is that UT and A&M are both really good, lost good players, and replaced them with good players. I don't think it's cut and dry that they're clearly worse than us going into 2025. I think them being ranked #1 is completely fair.

saw a prospect ranking that had UTs entire infield as 1st/2nd rounders. they appear to be doing pretty well reloading.

This. Offensive has zero risk. Pitching is what will be the difference to getting to the finals again. Our potential starting rotation looks to be league leading. We need bullpen to be the difference makers again.

IMO, College Baseball is the most unpredictable of all the sports.

In recent years we have seen Arky and the Vols be no. 1 all year,
and lose their Super Regional at their home ball park and not go to Omaha!

Such a fine line to get to Omaha and then win it all. How many years has FSU been to Omaha and
never won the title?

Having said all that.....I like our chances!

There are clearly coaches/staffs that know how to push the right buttons to consistently get their teams deep into the tourney/to Omaha. For better or worse, our previous coach was elite at that. Even years where his teams may not have been one of the 8 best in the country, sure enough, you would find them in Omaha.

We will, rightfully, start the season as #1. We will be the most talented team in the country. I love what we've seen from Earley since his hire. But does he have the managerial skills to push the right buttons in May/june? Only time will tell.
