Would it be fair to say that Aggie Baseball's best back to back seasons in its history (so far) are 2016 and 2017?


We won the SECT in 2016. We made NCAA Supers in 2015 (lost at TCU), 2016 (lost to TCU), 2017 (beat Davidson). We made it to Omaha in 2017 (lost to Louisville, TCU).

We've never been to back to back CWS. In fact, prior to 2024, our CWS appearances were at least 5 years apart.

If we make Super Regional in 2025 it will be the first time Ags have done that immediately after a CWS appearance.

This is all to say, sustained elite success is hard. It's especially rare in Aggie athletics.

We have not made back to back Sweet 16s in Men's Basketball ever.

We have not played NY6 bowl games in consecutive years since we were in the SWC.

Aggie Baseball appears to be our best chance to sustain elite success. To do so in 2025 would be an incredible breakthrough.

Both lost in the old format regional finals which would be equivalent to the supers.

Those are definitely in the conversation. Pre-Arky departure to SEC, so that is the better version of SWC. But still a demonstrably lighter weight conference

'92-'93 - A game away from the CWS in '92 and a trip and a W in Omaha in '93.
'98-'99 - Back to back Big XII regular season titles. One game away from Omaha in '98 and a trip there in '99.

Disagree. The SWC was as good a baseball league as any of that era.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but are you 100% sure? Back then, Rice, Tech, and TCU were all *awful* programs. At one point, A&M had something like a 26-game winning streak over Tech...which is unheard of in baseball. Before Graham, Hays, and Brown got to Rice, TT, and TCU, respectively, those schools played some terrible, terrible baseball.

But the SWC was stacked in the late '70s and through the '80s. Texas was always good under Gus, and Arkansas (Norm DeBriyn), Baylor (Mickey Sullivan), A&M (Tom Chandler / Mark Johnson), and Houston (Dr. Bragg Stockton) were all loaded programs. If today's 64-team playoff format was in place back then, the SWC and the west coast would have had some epic super regional and CWS battles. I'm sure it was for budgetary reasons, but the SWC cut their own throat several years by only having a 4-team conference tourney. There were several years 5 or 6 of the eight SWC teams would have been good enough to make the NCAAs (ref: 1990 Texas A&M), but back then if you didn't qualify for your conference tourney, you weren't considered for an at-large selection.

If you were suggesting the SWC was a weaker baseball conference just stop posting either you have forgotten or you don't know.
SWC was a very good baseball league in the 80's- early 90's

1992 was just one many gut wrenching losses for the Ags under Mark Johnson in regional finals.
Ags opened the regional with a 15-6 win over California.
Lost to Nomar Garciparra/ Jason Varitek led Georgia Tech 3-2 next day. Came back to eliminate top seed and host Florida then knocked off Georgia Tech 3-2 in same day to earn a spot in finals. Faced Cal again and led until Cal erupted for 9 runs in the top of the 8th inning.

First out of state regional I attended watching the Ags.

Funny thing is, no one has mentioned the upside down and backwards 2017 season. Very pedestrian regular season - we were swept at home by Kentucky, but we won the series at LSU. We played terrible down the stretch, losing our last 3 series, then went 1-and-done at the SECT. We barely snuck into the post season, swept through a fairly weak regional (Baylor, Iowa, Houston), then caught a HUGE break when Davidson knocked off national #2 seed UNC in their regional. One of our most "blah" regular seasons turned into hosting a super regional and a CWS appearance. Strange season, but that's how baseball go.

RC received an extension after the '17 season. Reasonable considering three straight seasons finishing in the Top 10 even if only one of those season did the Aggies make the trip to Omaha.

These were my first 2 seasons following Aggie baseball so these teams will always have a soft spot. But dang the losses to Houston in the regional were painful!

And you would've gone after who?

Geez......


I was actually a strong RC defender back then, I held on defending him on here for as long as I could but after 2019 and beyond it was clear the program was stuck
