I picked up my ring in '88 and went to the Chicken that night to dunk it.

My daughter's ring dunk was at the Tap where all the girls were on stage and chugging all at once. They were wearing rain ponchos as inevitably a couple of girls would throw up.

Ring dunking was quite different in '88 as it is today. In '88, like many, I dunked my ring into my pitcher, and used the pitcher as my mug all night, as people would fill it out of their pitcher as it got close to the bottom. If you wanted your ring back, you'd drain the pitcher. Otherwise, you drank for free all evening.

The girls would do the same, knowing that there was always a guy around willing to drain their pitcher for them and give them their ring.

As long as you were okay with blended beer, our way was a great way to celebrate ring dunk. My daughter said later that she wished they still did it the old way.

Dunking wasn't a thing in 77. I got mine mailed to me during the summer of 76 before I got back for the fall.

Dunked mine at the Chicken in '89, but with 2 Aggie sons who have their rings, I've learned that new army has to set their pitcher out overnight to let the beer get lukewarm with no foam.

Yes, a bunch of them do. Some even only pour 3 beers or add water. Bunch of lightweights. And they try to do it really fast & pour most of it down the front of their shirt. New army ring dunks are lame

Beer was so cheap back then me and my buddies would each be holding a pitcher of Shiner Bock at Carney's.

When I dunked mine in 1990 you had to finish the pitcher.....take the ring out of your mouth and put it on without looking....if you put it on wrong you had to dunk it again......3rd pitcher I got it right.

89 a week after everyone else who'd gotten their rings. Had to work (nights). Buddy dragged me to an empty chicken to dunk - cheered me up.

This sounds correct. I put $4 in my post above, but I thinknot was closer to $3. Ahhhhhh... the good Ole days.
