Twice in less than a minute the damn things end up on the field. You're at a baseball game, here's a novel idea: WATCH THE DAMN GAME! Not to mention the fact that if those things end up on the field at the wrong time they could screw up a play or even get somebody hurt.

Miami vs. Fullerton about five minutes ago.

I noticed it in the tu game. Some tu fans had a beach ball on a string. I guess they didn't want to let going to Omaha prevent them from acting like any less of a jerk than they do in austin.

The Fullerton left fielder endeared himself to the left field "bleacher bums" on Saturday by racing a security guard to a ball on the field. He kicked it back up into the stands just seconds before the rent-a -cop got there.

Next time up, he got a standing o.

BTW, Fullerton's freshman CF has the best arm I've seen in awhile. Classy fans too...good luck to the Titans.

josh, just to let you know: beach balls are part of the game in many parts of the country. it is a huge entertainment for the fans. it's fun to play keepaway with the ushers and rentacops.

I have been to the last 5 CSWs and it is just part of the games there. There are always beach balls being batted around in the stands and security guys trying to get them - in every game. Most of the time the tv doesn't even show it - it is somewhat of a tradition. It is really just plain silly to even make a reference to Texas fans. It is actually pretty entertaining sometimes - especially when you have been at the ballpark for over 12 hours straight. Also, at least 1/2 the fans in the stadium are not affiliated with a team and they tend to not be that interested in the games. At the Texas games this weekend that was especially true when the scores got out of hand. In addition, I would say that half the people in the bleachers who had Texas gear on where not from Texas - they just chose to root for Texas and bought a shirt or hat....same it true for fans with other teams' gear on.

I understand that, but if you can't keep them the hell off the field while the game is going then they need to be gone. Most of the people playing with them just seem to have no concept of when it is a good time and when it isn't.

Who do those renegade fans that have no affiliation with the teams they are rooting for think they are? They have no right to cheer for a school that they didn't even attend and/or graduate from. They are just a bunch of bandwagon fans and we don't need them!...(if you use Cobra Snake/scatback/sipag's twisted logic)

It's not a new concept, but when these games mean so much and they easily could have ended up on the field during a crucial play then it does bother me.

the only time i have noticed them are during a break in action. sure they could play a wrong role during the course of the game, but i think most fans in the stands know that and that is why you have not seen any on the field DURING play.

just my observation.

Surely, Josh, you understand stupid traditions. The beach ball in the General Admission area in the outfield has become a tradition...the ball on the string was a hilarious bit.

the ball on a string bit was hilarious when they first did it a few years ago (no I'm not saying it was the first time anyone ever did it, but it was the first time I'd seen it on the broadcast of the CWS) because the rentacop ran 250 feet and just as he got there they yanked it back up. They showed it on the broadcast and the look on the guys face was priceless.

If we went to Omaha more often, we might be in on the tradition a little more...
