The RPI this year is very small school (non-traditional baseball school) top heavy. Here are some of the "atypical" teams in the current top 50:

7 - Duke
9 - Coastal Carolina
10 - Indiana State
13 - Boston College
15 - West Virginia
17 - Connecticut
19 - Dallas Baptist
28 - Campbell
29 - Southern Mississippi
30 - Indiana
32 - Troy
33 - East Carolina
35 - UC-Santa Barbara
37 - Iowa
38 - Northeastern
39 - Maryland
44 - UC-Irvine
46 - Texas State (which happens to be A&M's most marquee non-conference win)
47 - Rutgers
50 - Wofford

Maybe even more telling, here are some notable teams outside of the top 50:

54 - TCU
55 - Oklahoma
59 - Texas Tech
60 - Arizona
63 - Ole Miss
70 - USC
83 - Wichita State
86 - Florida State
94 - Houston
98 - Cal

Six ranked teams in the SEC, and none of them are paired against either other. That's statistically unlikely, which always interests me.

If I remember my statistics correctly, there's only a 1.6% chance of this happening.

I wonder what the announcers for Bama/Vandy are going to talk about.

Oh snap - I didn't realized Bama started their series tonight. Have you ever heard of a coach getting whacked 12 hours before a game?

I think that's why D1 has Tech and KState in their regional projections despite near 60 RPI

lots of small schools are going to get bypassed

Or Kendall knows the committee is going to put at least 5 or 6 Big 12 teams into the post-season, no matter what.

you know...it's possible that the Bama scandal could propel the Ags into the postseason

if the scandal causes the Tide to collapse this weekend and next (at Blue Bell)

I'd be afraid it would have the opposite affect. Hopefully, it won't or if it does, they'll burn themselves out this weekend.

We have to avoid a sweep at all costs. I don't want to have to sweep one of our last two series to get in, but that's what it might come down to if we don't win a game (preferably the series) this weekend. I don't think 13-17 is going to cut it for us. 14-16 may not either.

all right, Florida (36-10) is at Blue Bell Park starting tomorrow night...

and the Gators have been very, very tough on the maroon-n-white -- during the regular season -- since A&M joined the SEC.

A&M has only won the series vs. UF one time (2014). This weekend will be the 5th regular season matchup.

past results:

2014 - A&M wins 2/3 at Blue Bell
2016 - Florida sweeps in Gainesville
2018 - Florida wins 2/3 at Blue Bell
2021 - Florida sweeps in Gainesville

strangely enough, the Ags have beaten UF more times in Hoover (4) than they have during the season (3)

And all of them on the road

There could really be some upheaval this weekend
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
it's getting messy in the bottom half of the SEC.

big dropoff after the 6th and 7th place teams...Kentucky (12-10) and Tennessee (12-10)

Alabama...10-13
Auburn.......9-13
A&M.......... 9-13
Georgia......8-14

what happens if none of the four make it to 14-16. Surely the SEC would not be a 7-bid league

In most years 14 wins does get you in. The problem this year seems similar to 2017 when both Mizzou and Ole Miss BOTH went 14-16 in the league and didn't get in. There were 8 SEC teams that did get in. Right now there are 7 pretty safe SEC teams. I'm afraid there's one more slot, and it will probably be among us, Auburn, and Bama. If we all finish at or around 14 wins, they MIGHT take 2 (series wins against both should help). I don't think they take 3. Based on this, I don't think 14 wins has ANY of these three teams SAFELY in. It isn't that simple.

I wish it was.

It may be a moot point anyway.

I think it's entirely possible. With all of the mid-major and non-traditional teams with strong RPI numbers, this could easily be the year the SEC takes a back seat.

interesting that the ACC is in a similar boat.

they have a clear top 6 that could all be regional hosts:

Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, BC, Miami, and Clemson

but then 2 high RPI teams with bad conference records:

#22 N.C. State at 9-13
#30 Louisville at 9-13

both should be on the bubble with the 4 SEC teams
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
#35 North Carolina (11-11) and #41 Notre Dame (14-12) look good at the moment

so the ACC should get 8 teams minimum into the field
