Since the new rules have been implemented and 2 weekends of SEC play, has anyone see statistics on the average length of SEC games?

Previous average was ~ 3 hours and we all know some went almost 5 hours.

I heard them mention on TV that they were 30-45 minutes shorter.

When we throw strikes, I know we have been done in less then 3-hours.

So far this year the Aggies have played ten games under three hours with most being just a few minutes short of that mark but four have been under two and half hours long. Most of the rest have finished play in 3h 15m.

The only game over four hours so far this season was the 16 inning contest against tech which lasted just over five and a half hours.

They showed a graphic in the game just now.
It said the average SEC game length last year was 3:10 & so far this year in conference play it's 2:46

But you also have run rule games this year that can bring the average down as well

I really don't understand why everyone is in a hurry to speed up games. I agree they should not last 5 hours, but I go to the ballpark to relax and enjoy a game. To get away from all the other things I am trying to hurry along throughout my day. If we want to speed things up, then we should figure out how to speed up meetings, job assignments, workdays, etc. Once we have that nailed, then maybe infringe on my entertainment.

A trick I learned a long time ago to speed up meetings when I am in charge is to state at the beginning of the meeting, "This meeting will be done by _______. I made a commitment to someone I love that I am going to keep." (I don't tell them the "someone" is me! ) Everyone thinks it is my wife or one of my kids, so they respect the deadline and we usually finish before the set deadline.

Thanks. It was really a sarcastic statement about all the things I don't enjoy versus all the things I do.

They are trying to speed it up for people who aren't going to watch anyway.

It's the classic "finding a solution for a problem that doesn't exist."

The games are about the same length they were 20 years ago yet somehow they feel hurried now. Not sure why that is. My guess is they feel hurried because we're playing poorly in this year's sprints while we played well during last year's marathon ls so it must be the rules changes.
The federal government was never meant to be this powerful.

Blame commercials in my opinion (unfortunately part of the game and needed for the revenue). Often time between innings everyone is standing around waiting while the commercial clock is still winding down (glad they at least have that to allow the game to continue).

I don't know the answer, but I think they also need to refine the review process for both baseball and basketball. In both cases it drags the game down and completely ruins momentum. Seems to be way too many reviews. Especially in basketball.

When you walk 10 a game and go through a bunch of pitchers... it's gonna be a long game

Have you felt like baseball is missing something this year?

I haven't sat and watched a full game yet. I've seen a few highlights of an MLB pitcher getting a balled assessed for taking too long.

Yeah, I've noticed. I keep score at games and many times, the next play is happening before I've even had a chance to write down the last one. Sometimes I'm 3-4 plays behind.

Also, a few times this season, I've looked at the clock and felt a bit sad because the game was going so quickly and I wanted to stay longer. (I actually felt this on Friday night but then we got a nice long weather delay, lol.)

Further, I think some, not all, but some of our hitting woes are attributable to having to adjust to pitch clock rules.

We benefitted from the pace of play and slower hitting with teaching our batters to take their time.

Feels like a reversion to the mean trying to relearn our approach at the plate
