Find someone who looks at you like David Dellucci looked at Coach Schlossnagle when he was talking about his approach to his program and hitting.

We went from a sacrifice bunt/choke-up-on-two-strikes style hitting approach to this. And now we put a lot of crooked numbers on the scoreboard.

I said in another thread, that's his simple philosophy. Simple concept but not easy to do. You have to work at it daily and really emphasize it, reinforce it.

Yet he plays them on others. basically, "I'm coming after you, but you better not try to come after me." love that kind of competitiveness.

It's more than fun! We get a runner on base without outs! We score, I'd like to see the stats, imo more than any team with 2 outs. I doubted this hire…I don't like in state steal hire of coaches but I'm very impressed, especially after tonight's interview with Jim.

I hope every teenager in America was listening to Schloss talk about hitting on the SEC Now set for the last 3 mins.

Texas A&M won the lottery when they hired Schloss… just had a fantastic interview on SEC Now that just made a lot of sense with their hitting approach.

Loved listening to Coach Schlossnagle from Texas A&M a minute ago give credit to his predecessor (who was pushed out) for running a great program with great culture. Don’t see that everyday. Refreshing

I despise the shift and loved Schloss' comments. Also that interview was great publicity for the program. Glad he is savvy enough to wait around and take advantage of an extended interview opportunity. Well done!

Wouldn't have had the interview at all it the game wasn't postponed. If played and if the Aggies won, there probably would have been a postgame interview with Schloss but I doubt the questions would have been the same. This huge positive publicity almost makes up for no game tonight. Almost.

Hope any recruit considering A&M will listen to that interview . THAT is a coach you want to play for . Even if you are a draft prospect …. You see how playing for Schlossnagle can make you better and even more attractive to MLB . He was also respectful of Rob and the kids he recruited , but man , our recruiting is going to next level for years to come.

Yes...I have the olds....but seeing fundamentals preached is so refreshing.

Going oppo with a shift, taking more pitches, throwing strikes, etc. >>>>> exit velocity, launch angle, etc.

Yes, I know Schloss employs the shift (which I hate), but I'll take that if it means having a lot of the other fundamentals that seem to have disappeared

I don't understand the hate for the shift.

It's not so much the shift I hate....it's that very few hitters take advantage of it.

Teach batters to hit to all fields, and the shift will go away.

I haven't gotten to see the interview yet but I believe what he is saying is that he would take it as an insult if you could get away with playing a shift against his hitters because they weren't able to hit the ball the other way.

That's exactly the point. At least at the MLB level the analytics supposedly say you're better off from a run production/W-L perspective in trying to beat the shift via XB hits (even if you strike out more) rather than driving the ball the other way or even being satisfied with shooting a 2-strike single away from the shift.

I personally don't buy it because every base runner matters and the more you slap a base hit away from the shift you drive up pitch counts and force pitchers to make more pitches which increases the odds of them making a mistake and grooving a fastball or hanging a breaking ball that the hitter deposits in the cheap seats.

It's not the shift itself it's the insistence of offenses to be happy with the walk/K/HR as the only true outcomes. Makes for bad baseball IMHO.

Hey, is there a video of this interview? I searched YouTube for highlights last night because I was at work when it happened but couldn't find anything. Searched twitter too, nada.
