Does this even exist?

If so, has anyone in South Texas accessed it?

I receive the SEC Network broadcast on channel 404 as a Dish Network customer. Last night, the Ags were already in the 4th inning of the game, and the Florida game was still being broadcast. A message was scrolled that the Ags' game could be seen on the SEC Network alternate channel. According to my zip code, that was supposedly channel 596 or 597 on Dish. I tried but was unable to tune into those channels. I called Dish and got some bonehead who told me that the game had not started yet, which is why I could not access the alternate channel.

I'll take any assistance with the SEC Network alternate channel in South Texas on Dish Network.

Can't help you other than to tell you the channel does exist. Watched the game on it on Time Warner in SA

seriously tho: they exist but on dish and directv (I've had both) they don't do ANYTHING except for occasionally during football season.

the people with cable (suddenlink, uverse, etc) all think we're stupid b/c they instantly find it no problem. they're like "duh - just go to the guide and push the button!"

if you have dish or directv the ALT station is literally worthless. it has never, ever shown any basketball or baseball. ever. it will not be on the SEC ALT station if you have dish or directv. you have to stream it from watchespn app/espn3 etc.

but the cable folks will still tell you that it works fine for them.

and yes calling dish and directv is a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME, as you already experienced.

Dish and DirecTV only go live with the alternate channels for football and a rare basketball game because there's just not enough audience to justify having to steal the bandwidth to make it happen. They don't have bandwidth tied up in an alternate channel that broadcast nothing 99% of the time, it is deployed elsewhere and they have to borrow it from other channels when they do go live on the alternate channel.

Same in here in SW Mo. We have 4 SEC alternate channels and they never show game when they say it should be on Alt.

Watched it on Time Warner in Austin area....channel 385. It wasn't on the channel guide, though, so a bit of looking helping.

For all the complaints about Suddenlink here in B/CS, I would rather have SEC alt at times like last night, even if it means no Comedy Central.

Good and correct explanation. HOWEVER, they certainly do have, or CAN have, the necessary bandwidth to make it happen, I think it's mostly about not lucrative enuf for them,

And all this time I thought there was such a thing as false advertising. Maybe the FCC would be interested, but doubtful. I have Dish, get the message that it's on the alternates, but nothing.

You can watch it through WatchESPN so if you have a chrome cast or the app you can put it on your tv if you don't get the alternate through your cable provider

Yes. And it's also not "the game has not started yet" or "your package doesn't include that channel" or whatever else the dish and directv customer service people decide to make up on the spot.

If you have dish or directv you are not going to see any baseball game on the SECN ALT station, no matter what the scrolling ticker on ESPN says. It's not going to happen. Not this weekend, not in the supers, not in the cws. Get your streaming rig ready.

I understand the explanation about how Directv would have to "borrow" bandwidth from other channels in order keep the SEC-alt "hot" for quick switches. HOWEVER, they seem to be able to suddenly carry 5 new channels (i.e. 701-705) for Golf or Tennis "mosaics" as is being done this weekend. Howzat work?

It's not bandwidth. It's incompetence and just don't care at the head end.

I don't think it's incompetence. They seem to be competent at extracting $ from subscribers while avoiding whatever cost is involved in carrying these.

Weather delays the start of the Florida/UConn Game. Chances are our game starts on the SEC Network Alternate Channel again this evening.

I had them both at one time or another (DTV for 7 years) and I'll never go back to either. Not even for NFL Sunday Ticket. NFL Red Zone gives me all I need - they flip the channels for me and do replays.

Uverse is much much much better. Except for waiting for install I've never really had any issue with Uverse. Well I had the gateway box go bad after a year but they replaced it quick.

Was watching on Roku. 5th inning tied @ 5. Play stopped due to rain.

I made the conscious choice to live far enough out of town that cell service is sketchy and cable options are non-existent. So Dish or DirecTV it is.

With the sling/Chromecast/etc when you access ESPN 3 do you still have to designate a provider and sign in?

It appears that it is the Vanderbilt/Washington Game on the SECN. Either way it is in a weather delay.

I have New Wave cable in El Campo. The SEC alternate channel is 80.
