Yesterday one of the commentators was saying that there was 4 D1 school that don't have a baseball program. Does anyone remember what they were?

EDIT: Maybe he was saying Power Five conferences.

SMU? I know they dropped it years ago and am not sure if they ever reinstated it.

I think it's actually that only 4 schools from Power 5 conferences that don't have baseball teams. I'm quite sure that there are more D1 schools don't have a team.

I think there are more than 4. Something like 46 don't have baseball.

347 play D1 basketball. There are 301 that play D1 baseball.

Add Colorado State and Wyoming to the list (unless we're only counting Power 5).

I think it's just four Power 5 teams without baseball. Several non-power 5 schools don't play. Besides those mentioned UTEP, Tulsa, Utah State and Boise State don't have baseball teams.

Alabama Birmingham, American, Boston, Cleveland State, UC Davis, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Idaho, Idaho State, Boise State, Iowa State, Montana, Montana State, Morgan State, Portland State, SMU, Temple, Drake, DePaul, Marquette, South Carolina State, Utah State, Vermont, Hampton, Howard, Duquense, Wyoming, Weber State....

We're aware of that, I edited the OP that concludes only Power 5 Teams for the discussion.

Alabama Birmingham (UAB) does have baseball, though. They are currently 1-0 in the CUSA tournament after beating host, Southern Miss, in round one.

So even when the Big 12 had 12 teams there were only 10 baseball teams.

Colorado doesnt have a baseball or softball team. Not sure how many other D1 schools have neither baseball nor softball teams.

The biggest issue of this thread, is what is D1? It changes by sport.

Sane with UNT had it in the 80's and early 90's then dropped it. They were awful but really didn't give a true effort and played at a city park that was awful.

D1 does not change. However, there are subdivisions for football. Also, schools can join conferences by sport that are D1 for that sport only. For example: Notre Dame is a member of the ACC, except for football, which it is an independent. But for ice hockey, it is a member of the Big 10. DBU is an affiliate member of CUSA, but for baseball only. Otherwise, it is in DII. I think Lone Star conference, but I'm not sure. These are all SCHOOL specific, but not D1 specific. It doesn't really change unless the NCAA doesn't offer the sport as a championship.

Water Polo has some weird conference affiliations that still like back to NCAA championships. Look it up if you're interested further. I'm not.
