Congratulations to Kyle Richardson, class of 2016, LHP, College Station High School for his commitment to Texas A&M to play baseball.

I know we've had some discussion on this board regarding some of the local B/CS kids going out of town for college, but now there is one coming to A&M.

For those who haven't followed, College Station High School is ranked #1 in the state in 3A. They return everyone from last year , and they still don't have a senior on the team because this is only the high schools second year. Caldwell is ranked #2 or #3 which will set up some big district battles. There are multiple D-1 players at CSHS including Richardson, Ryan Johnson (TCU), Baylor Rowlett (Ok. State) and MacGregor Hines (Florida). If you like baseball, make it a point to come out and watch these guys.

Add Cody Staab to the list of commits from CSHS, he's going to Rice.

Absolutely amazing to have that many D1 recruits on one high school team (not to mention a 3A team in a smallish town).

Nick Kennedy (committed to Texas) and Jaxxon Grisham (offer from Texas State) also on CSHS' roster

That is really strong for a 3A school and a Soph. at that.

And don't forget Rusty Burson's son, Payton. He's also on the team. Group is loaded!

The tough question is why A&M's staff can't get more if these kids to committ. Especially when some are legacies and or have parents that work at A&M. I know three if these kids and their families and haven't heard great reports about how we stack up. It's just disappointing to see so many local kids who grew up as Aggies play ball elsewhere.

Honestly, if I was raised in BCS I would most likely not want to attend A&M. I don't understand why more people cant see why kids may want to actually get away from home for a few years.

This. College Station is great and all, but if I had gone to CSISD my whole life I would probably want to get away. Luckily I didn't and I loved my time at A&M. I get more why someone from CSHS or AMCHS would want to get away than stay. I'm glad this kid wants to stay, though. My dad used to coach him and says he's a great kid that works hard in everything he does and thinks he will be a good one.

Ryan Johnson may be the best prospect on the planet in his age group. Don't think TCU needs to worry about ever seeing him on that campus.

Yeah, I'm bummed about Ryan but your right. I'll be very surprised if TCU gets him on campus.

Ryan was also just invited to the 2014 Under Armour All-American game. He was one of two juniors invited last year, and is one of only 3 players ever to be invited twice.

In my experience, a 'commit" means nothing from either side of the equation. The kid involved is still entitled to other options, and the coaches are just trying to keep other schools out of the equation. Until actual signing date, nothing is set in concrete. Once signing takes place, then the coach has control. Tread carefully !

Yeah but early commits also benefit in the HS rankings because the guys putting together ranking lists probably don't actually see players play, but due to financial restrictions have to depend more on what schools are or have shown interest in the player. Helps players draft status also. Recruiting is about hype. Just like colleges like players that make varsity as freshman or sophomore season sometimes without understanding that said HS might have recently split allowing for weak Jr Sr class or a new HS that doesn't even have a Jr Sr class. It's all just business.

That school will always be loaded and Consol is about to struggle. CSHS has the "rich" part of CS. The first time I heard about where the new high school was going to be I said they'd win at least one state championship, and they could go back to back this year and next. You basically took a lot of the top talent from Consol and bumped it down to 3A, and that was a really good group out of College Station.

I wish for Bryan and Consol's sake they would have just made Freshman campus's like Southlake Carrol did. Keep your numbers down but keep your athletics able to compete at a high level. I was lucky to be in the group just before Rudder and I got to play with the guys I've been playing with all my life and we were very good. My brother got the short end and that was the first year Rudder opened. 2 guys stayed at Bryan from the group he grew up playing with.

Does anybody know if CSHS is bumping up to 4A with Bryan and Consol going down next year? I think everyone will be in the same district next year.

Congrats to Kyle!

That is the speculation, we find out for sure on Monday.

I too wish BISD and CISD would not have split into two HS's but rather used the freshman campus

CSHS will jump to 5A with most likely Bryan, Consol, Rudder, Brenham, Magnolia, Magnolia West, and Waller. I think there's going to be a 6A added on, so what normally would be a 4A will probably be a 5A.

I don't know that it necessarily helps a draft status. The MLB has guys that go around and write a scouting report and video you and then send it to every MLB team. The local guy used to go by "smash". His last name was hard to say.

College coaches that have "number of years on HS varsity" in a players scouting file, don't know what they doing..., but none of them have that as part of their analysis, so no worries there moms, dads and other experts.

Phil let me ask you something why does every club that has my son fill out their paperwork ask at what level my wife and I played sports? Does it really matter if parents played at a professional level?
Phil Garner
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nice redirect. I'll play.

Pedigree plays a part. Does it matter? It matters just height matters when all else is equal.

Furthermore, after finding reasons to like a kid, they then try to find reasons not to like a kid so they can narrow their list. Height, height of parents, composure, attitude, shoe size, body type, crazy over the top parents (smaller factor relative to level of crazy) all measure in.

On that form does it ask when your son first played on varsity? The answer is no. How many trophies they've won...no. What their batting average in HS is...no.

East, I'm sorry that I started this, but I had to call you out. It's threads like this that keep me from getting on here much. However, so many "facts" go unchecked and I had to say something.

The guys that played modern college and pro-ball that get on here just laugh at stuff that is written because of all the "experts" that have no clue. Notice most of them don't post much because it's a waste of time explaining why someone didn't swing at a fat changeup right down the middle. There's a reason, but it will be rejected by those that didn't, for whatever reason, compete at the highest levels. A scout visiting the house to talk to a player does not make that player or his parents an expert.

I will not post any more just because I don't like arguing on the internet and it makes us all look stupid. I started this, so I will take the blame. However, know that I will follow this thread for another day or two and read what follows my comments. I just don't want to further the pissing match.

Fire away, but remember that on occasion you may be in a thread with someone that didn't almost sign, but got paid to play.

Talking about a high school being ranked highly because of college commits, Bryan is ranked 19th this year.

Not that they are a bad team, and they may live up to that ranking, but the only reason they could possibly be ranked that high is because of Amador going to Rice and Miner being a highly rated prospect.

That being said, last night they beat the team ranked #1 in 4a (Brenham) 10-3 in a scrimmage. These rankings are coming from Houston 5a baseball.

I wasn't there but was told Brenham didn't have a single guy that could blow it by anybody, and they walked 14 guys. All 3 of their runs were unearned as well.

Phil,

When the clubs are trying to build their case against or for a prospect, do they prefer to have a short track record say one or two years, or is it better for them to have a longer track record of say three or four years?
