Don't think that's the same Jose Duran as he played at Texas A&M in 2008 where he was named Big 12 POTY.

Our Jose also wasn't 6'1". Much shorter! Last I remember he was playing in the independent league as he had been released by whomever drafted him.

Jose is back in CS, finsihing school I beleive. He was working with the team in some capacity

He has been coming back to school during the falls to finish class. He is playing indy ball while German is playing in Mexico. Ran into him after game 4 of the world series.

why did they give up on him so soon?

He was hurt majority of time and did not play well. Minor Leaguers have a short shelf life.
