One of the dozen pitchers FSU trotted out in the 9th inning had a bandage on the thumb of his pitching hand.

I'm surprised that is allowed - or is it not and the umpire didn't catch it?

I'm sure it was looked at by either a NCAA official or an umpire.

Yep that is illegal. Should have been an ejection correct?

I don't think its against any rules as long as its skin colored. I wore a band-aid over a cut finger for a couple outings during my time..

Not questioning you, Shane, but why would the color of the bandage matter?

I saw that. It's illegal. Warning, then ejection.

Rule 9 / Pitching
Section 2, e, A.R. 1

“A.R. 1—The pitcher shall not use a bandage or any other distracting item on the pitching

It could definitely distract hitters if it were colored, but I'd be more worried about it giving pitchers an advantage of making a ball spin/break...

IMO it's not distracting if it's flesh colored.

should have been warned then ejected if he didn't remove it.

Wildmen, it was on his pitching hand, therefore color doesn't matter

Interesting.

I wasn't thinking of distraction but more along the lines of his grip and what he could possibly do to the ball with it being on his pitching thumb.

Thanks for the rule....someone should tip off the coaching staff to watch for him later this weekend

In last year's Miami Regional, Barret had to take an IV in the second inning for dehydration. He came out with a bandage wrapped around his arm where the line had been hooked up. During his warm up pitches, the umpire made him remove the bandage. We noticed the bandage on the FSU player's thumb as well and were surprised he didn't have to remove it. There is such a thing as liquid skin that acts like a bandage but is invisible.

Clearly the camera man thought it was worth zooming in, so it would have to be considered distracting/unusual.

Yes, the cameraman thought it was important...the clueless announcers missed the picture. I saw it too.
