FYI...we were #30 last Monday. The 3-1 record in the Fullerton and OU games bumped us up 12 spots.

I expect the Ags to be ahead of TCU in every poll and perhaps as high as #7 or #8 in CB or NCBWA

ESPN still has OU ahead of the Ags after losing 2 of 3, scoring a total of 4 runs at home in 3 games, and with an rpi 12 spots higher than the Ags...amazing....or really biased.

I think you meant to say "Espn hates us".

ESPN is the coaches poll. My guess is that very few of the coaches who vote actually know what happened over the weekend. They just look at overall record and team reputation and fill out a ballot accordingly.

A jump of 4 spots from 13 to 9 is pretty good just the same.

the longhorns should not be in the top 5. Tomato can schedule to date. Only 3 of 20 games on the road (3 at RPI #89 Hawaii) and only 3 of 20 vs. ranked teams (6-5 Stanford). And it's even debatable if the Cardinal should be ranked.

I would not be surprised if a GA or someone else is voting for many of the coaches.
Mr. Bergstrom

SIDs usually do the voting.

All these baseball polls seem to vary more than the football or basketball polls. I've often thought that was partially due to not seeing college baseball on tv much till time for the regionals in the NCAA road to Omaha. Makes it harder to compare teams.

Someone invariably posts something to this effect on this board every year about this time. It's almost never correct. Let's at least beat them in a series for once before talking smack.

Finally some love from the BA poll

That's an incredibly quick climb for BA. I didn't expect us to move up more than 3 or 4 spots.

hold on cynic, in 4 of the last 5 years that statement has been stone cold on the money. Especially last season.

I wouldn't use the sips performance against us as the meter for their performance against the high expectations they get. They got to the cws one year but that was sandwiched between multiple years where they were bounced from regionals and a super regional they hosted.

It's nice being the top 10. I think we'll continue to climb with SFA & KU coming up, but after that 9 of the next 10 games on on the road. That's tough no matter who you play, but we're playing a decent few teams in Rice, KSU, UTA, and BU.

Texas State deserves more love. Top 10 RPI, sweeps of Houston and SHSU, wins over Nebraska and Baylor (?). Only losses were narrow to Rice, Texas, Missouri State and one more I can't remember.

Texas State beat Baylor 13-2 @ Baylor and lost @ home to them 6-4.

thats one of the biggest jumps i've ever seen in baseball america's poll. they've generally defended their slow climbs for years now.

I like Texas States schedule....

3 conference games
1 game (Big 12, TCU, Arkansas)

It is no secret that I am a proponent of the composite poll. One of the things I like about it is pointing out the variation from poll to poll.

From this week's write-up:
quote:
This week's example: UC Irvine is No. 11 in two polls, unranked in another.

The poll that has UC Irvine unranked? Baseball America.

From the March 14th poll:
quote:
This week's example: Arkansas is No. 9 in one poll, unranked in another.

The poll that had Arkansas unranked? Baseball America.

From the March 7th poll:
quote:
This week's example: LSU is No. 7 in one poll, No. 16 in another.

The poll that had LSU 16? Baseball America.

From the February 28th poll:
quote:
This week's example: LSU is No. 7 in one poll, No. 19 in another.

The poll that had LSU 19? Baseball America.

From the February 21st poll:
quote:
This week's example: Texas A&M is No. 8 in one poll, No. 21 in another.

The poll that had the Ags 21? Baseball America.

From the preseason poll:
quote:
This week's example: Texas A&M is No. 8 in one poll, No. 21 in another.

Are you noticing a trend here?

don't forget BA had us pre-season number 1 last year (if I remember correctly)... maybe they were a little sour on how we did with that number 1 ranking...

Our RPI jumped 2 spots up to #16 after last night's win over SFA. Wins by Fullerton and Rice didn't hurt us, either.

Guess I am just jaded after all the tu and Rice beatdowns we have suffered the past 15 years. We need to get those monkeys off our backs, in addition to the Omaha monkey. Here's to hoping - this season looks like our best shot in a while.

Two years ago.

The '09 squad was hardly the first pre-season BA #1 to have a disappointing season.

BA in my opinion gives too much weight to teams with MLB prospects. If the team has two or three possible high draft picks on the squad the squad, chances are they'll be highly ranked.
