Anyone have an opinion on this?
Situation: 3rd inning, SH runner safe at first on errant throw. Shofner hides the ball in his mit and Loux walks around the mound. Finally, when the runner takes a half step off first, Shofner tags him out and shows the ump the ball. The ump shakes his head, points toward Loux, and generally disregards Shofner's pleas, and he finally tosses the ball back to Loux. No apparent disagreement from Aggie dugout. Anyone have a take? Ump claimed he did not see it? Technicality?

I missed this! If that is how it happened, then he should of been out. If he stepped off and Loux never stepped foot on the mound, then he is out. The blue disregarding it would be like not counting the points in a basketball game because a dunk was too fancy. No excuse for a blue not to see it considering there should be one right on top of that in case of a pick off attempt.

not sure, but it looked like the ump was saying time was called (again, not sure of this fact). Time being called is the only reason I can think of for the runner to not be called out.

Correct me if I'm wrong here...

If time was called after the play (by anyone), then play doesn't technically begin again until the pitcher steps on the rubber with the ball.

What has been said is correct. Generally it's a legal play unless time has been called.

The point made about time being called is also correct, as already stated. As I said, I missed this play. I don't always catch everything in Aggie Alley.
