wow...really cannot believe that it has been 10 years

unbeliviable season...the sweep of Oklahoma State at Olsen to start Big 12 play set the tone for the entire season...the Baylor series was again a great weekend of baseball...Big 12 title on the line with a sold out Olsen field and about 2K in Aggie Alley on Saturday and Sunday..knocking off Texas twice at Disch Faulk... coming thru losers bracket at regional and double dipping Long Beach State to advance..the Clemson super regional was unbeliviable and ranks right up there with the 1989 Texas series in my book as the the greatest weekends in Olsen field history...great season..I made the trip up to Omaha and even though we didnt have a good showing at the CWS....still an unforgettable season

great season in '99
very very disappointing that we have not been back to Omaha since. I honestly thought that after '99 we were starting to get over the hump when it comes to getting to Omaha..'99 was our 2nd trip in 7 years which was/is great for us..I was hoping and thought we would turn into one of those programs that went to Omaha about 4 or 5 times in a decade. Here we are 10 years later...0 CWS appearances.
Whats it going to take to turn A&M into a program that can consistently get to Omaha?

Recently just seems that we need to figure out how to beat Rice in a Super Regional...should do the trick

I wonder if MJ and Lawler were invited back? I realize they will/might be coaching that day, but it would be nice if they were at least invited.

Well Childress has only been here three years and made the Supers the last two so hopefully he will breakthrough soon.

I don't think Lawler is coaching right now...at least he's not a head coach any more. It would be great to have them back...would love to see them.

Lawler was with Coleman at Midland College IIRC.

I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE VIDEO THAT THEY PUT TOGETHER FOR THIS CEREMONY!!! i'm pumped, hopefully it's as good as we all think it will be.

Doubt it..A&M always under achieves when it comes to stuff like videos and highlights..ALWAYS!

unfortunatly Victory is correct....A&M media weather for football, basketball or baseball always seems to drop the ball on intros or promotional videos
could be alot better..most of the time were left shrugging our shoulders and saying "that was it"??

Great memories from that regional weekend. The Saturday rain delay antics of the "dirt bags". Daylan holt dropping the fly ball and then hitting one a mile. The 8 homers in the late Sunday championship game (wish they still did late Sunday and not a Monday deal). And of course, "Let Jaime pitch!".

That was the first weekend away with my wife (now married for 10 plus years!). Great stuff.

really not sure why im about to open these wounds...but...as we all know...A&M is not a program that is know for reaching Omaha on a regular basis...hell we only have 2 apperances in Omaha since since 1965. im not one for moral victories at all believe me..but the Ags have been snake bitten in regional finals and Super regionals....just one step away from Omaha

2008 - lost super regional at Rice - 2 wins away from CWS
2007 - lost super regional at Rice- 2 wins away from CWS
2004- lost super regional at LSU- 2 wins away from CWS
1999- advanced to CWS
1998 - lost regional finals at Olsen to Mississippi State- 1 win away from CWS
1995- lost regional finals to Miami in coral gables- 1 win away from CWS
1993- advanced to CWS
1992- lost regional finals to California in Gainsville,FL- 1 win away from CWS..and this came after the Ags beat Cal 15-6 to open the tournament..I went ot his regional and it was a great time..Ags beat Florida and Georgia Tech on saturday to advance to Sunday title game
1989- everybody knows story..double dipped at Olsen by LSU in regional finals- 1 win away from CWS
1987- double dipped by Oklahoma State in Starkville,Miss after knocking off host Miss State and then Oklahoma state to advance to finals- 1 win away from CWS

so by that we were in win away from Omaha in 1987,1989,1992,1995,and 1998 and 2 wins away in 2004,2007 and 2008..of course some years under the old regional we were 2 wins away form Omaha as well but that cannot count...in 2004,2007 and 2008 we won regionals to advance to supers so that is a legit claim...win half those and throw in the 1993 and 1999 trips and we have a pretty good recent history at the CWS

I know Iknow it is pointless to play the "what if" or "should have" card..but come on..this is Texas A&M athletics...thats pretty much all we have

highlight video was not very good...and good greif..these guys gave Texas A&M one of the best season's in school history, a conference title and a trip to the CWS...how about actually bringing them onto the field and introducing the players in attendance when "honoring them"...instead the guys that were there stood around the 3rd base coaching box and they were introduced as a team...sad..give em some props

For those who weren't at Olsen tonight, here was how the '99 team was honored. The PA guy (not Rick) spent a couple of minutes talking about all of the offensive records that team set and how we hit two homeruns and then fought off a Clemson rally to win game 3 of the Super Regional.

About 10 or 12 guys from the team were standing between 3rd base and the tarp. I was waiting for them to be individually acknowledged. Instead the PA guy says something like "Ladies and gentlemen some of the 1999 Fightin Texas Aggies." We applauded, a few of them waved, and it was over. I don't even know which players it was out there.

So very lame.

I saw Holt, Truitt,Hudson,Scheshuck,Lindsey,Sundstrom,Porter,and Ballouli(sp?? been awhile since I wrote his name)
there were others but I coudnt make out who...though one was Heaney

and that is why you should always just stay on the safe side and write KB.

I am sad to hear that. These guys deserved more.

steve scarborough, chad hutson, steve leonard, and greg porter were also there. HUGE letdown, the A&M media people (or whoever) choked big time on this one.. way to "honor" them. embarrassing, they deserve a lot more

heaney wasnt there. for the first time ever, i am ashamed of the way we did things tonight.

who ever organized this "honoring" should be ashamed. One of the greatest teams in A&M sports history and that all we can do for them? They should have done this right before the game..had a great 5 minute or so highlight video with some Dave South audio..heck with all the great moments they gave us a minute 5 minute video would have taken no time to put together...then introduce each player one by one and have them go out behind pitchers mound..introduce them all then have one of them throw out the first pitch...they then go to where the current team gathers at 3B...the '99 team gets in the huddle, give some words of wisdom and encouragment and breaks the team as the starters hit the field to Thunderstruck!
'99 team deserved much more then what they got last night...terrible job of honoring this team..pathetic!

I agree with those above who thought this was VERY poorly handled. That had to be pretty awkward for the players from 1999 that made the effort to show up to be "honored." Either do it right, or don't bother.

This coming weekend they are scheduled to honor the 1989 team. I hope they get it right this time; although if they do a great job this Saturday, it will just be that much more of a slap in the face to the guys from 1999.

That's a true shame that there was no video highlights of that season. I remember seeing the '99 highlight video, and it was pretty darn good. Why could they not have run that...or just some of it. Somebody screwed up big time...either SID, the Gameday manager or the video people. Really a piss poor way to honor that team.
