Posted on the game thread that we got a text from a baseball girlfriend at the game that KC has a concussion and Brodie lost teeth and has gone to the surgeon.

Talbot said on the radio that they didn't know if Kyle has a concussion or not, and I didn't see any blood from Brodie. I know he had some but it wasn't like in '90.

For both Brodie and KC. A concussion is no walk in the park either.

very troubling news. I hope both players can recover quickly. this is the second time Brodie has been hit in the head. it happened his fish year too.

I missed the KC thing as i lost radio signal in my truck. Hope he gets well soon too

I spoke to Dylan and ot happened so fast but he thinks his elbow caught KC in the neck along with other impact. They think a mild concussion but KC looked pretty good after the game. Dylan said it was more of a precautionary thing that Kyle came out.

As for Brodie, as already mentioned, he took a shot to the jaw and is in surgery. No other update than that.

t&p for both. You could hear the impact of the ball to the jaw up in GA and could see the pool of blood on the chalk. Hope all is well. Tough to see that happen to a kid.

Another example of the need for face guards on the batting helmets. Unfortunately, it won't be mandated until a player is killed.

I understand where you are coming from but the face guard hinders your sight of the ball. You won't be hit in the face anymore, but it could increase your chances of being hit.

TV this morning said lost some teeth, others lose and out at least a few weeks. No broken jaw.

That would be awesome if nothing was broken... T&P

Talked with Brodys dad and he has a cracked jaw, chipped front tooth, stitches both inside and outside. Had surgery last night his teeth were at a 90 degree angle where the ball hit him. He goes back to the Dr. on Friday to see if he has any nerve damage.

Close-fitting, high impact plastic or composite face guards do not enter the field of vision when fitted properly.

Even the most highly skilled plastic/reconstructive surgeons can not fully restore a person's appearance, neuro-sensitivity, and/or anatomical functionality after particularly severe maxillofacial injuries.

The mistaken vision issue you mentioned and the perceived machismo of wearing the current headgear are the reasons these injuries will continue, until an outcome is so horrific that change will be mandated.

I respect you and I am not trying to give you a hard time. I just hate seeing kids maimed needlessly.

it happens so rarely that it's not going to ever bring a change...

it might sound bad, but after watching them both (2007 and 2009) it seems to be a batter specific issue. Brodie looked like a deer in the headlights Wednesday. I don't know if he was waiting for the pitch to break or what, but it was quite a shock (to me at least) that he didn't even turn his head.
