With all of the discussions of the different baseball caps recently, I went out and bought one from the MSC that is the replica of the one the team wears now.

The only problem is that I look retarded in it. I know over time the cap will begin to fit better to my head, but is there a way to do it faster that you prefer?

too big, too small or the brim isn't shaped?

If the brim isnt shaped right, take a baseball and put in the brim. Then get a bunch of rubber bands and use them to hold the brim tight around the ball for a day or so.

It's mostly the brim.

The baseball is what I'd use to shape one.

isn't the flat brim in style now for baseball teams?

Alright. Thanks, I'll try that.

Yes, but my head doesn't fit the actual hat part if I don't bend the brim a bit.

I've also heard of people taking a shower with the hat on to shrink the cap down to perfectly fit your head. Wouldn't this just ruin the cardboard brim?

taking a shower with it doesnt ruin the brim, ive done it with a few of my caps.

What if the One Size Fits All hat is a tad too big?

I didn't think the brims were cardboard... new one to me, but I've never gutted any of my caps...

I've got one that I've had since 02. Washed it many times and it still looks fine... so washing it shouldn't hurt.

Cardboard hasn't been used in (good) hats for some time. The last new hat I saw with cardboard (and it was a cheap one) was in '91. They have plastic brims now. Just look at any frat boy thats cut the fabric to make it look more worn out.

Oh. I just remember the time when I was a kid and the bill got all warped and nasty looking. It's nice to know they have improved since then.

I usually telescope a bill by carefully rounding the outer edges of each side the bill slowly and rolling each edge toward each other until I obtain the desired curvature. You want to make sure you use a rounding motion as you do not want to form a crease in the bill. The baseball/rubber band trick works too, but I prefer my method mainly b/c it gives my nervous ADHD self something to do while wearing a hat all day...

As far as what is "in", the trend today is to keep certain types of hats bills flat, like the New Era 5950's and Pro-Line hats our team wears (hats with larger structured crowns). This is not the case with unstructured hats as the bills usually come from he manufacturer telescoped slightly and it is still considered "in" to telescope those types of hats.

I telescope all my bills and do not get into the whole trend thing. But, to each his/her own....

The trend today also is to keep the crown high, but I usually break mine down ASAP. Two methods exist that I know of. One, as mentioned previously, is sticking your head in the shower with hat on and then using your hands to form the crown around you head. The other I learned from baseball players. You boil a big pot of clean (or dirty if you like that look) water and then carefully place each corner of the crown in the boiling water and it pretty much breaks the crown down right there. Let it cool after a few seconds then place it on the head and use your hands to form the softened crown around your head. The boiling method pretty much insures that the break in lasts…Also, if the hat is too big, placing the back end of the hat in boiling water for a few seconds then wearing it after it cools for a second will shrink most wools and cottons. Be careful though. If you leave a wool hat in too long in boiling water it could shrink too small. Be conservative with how long you leave it in the water, and be sure to wear until it is fully dry as the hat will shrink to the size the object it surrounds. If you take it off too early, it could shrink too small. So do this method on a day that you intend to wear a wet hat a good portion of the day...

You can soak the bill in water, put rubber bands around it and let it dry overnight, but you will still have to wear it a lot for it to fit completely right. So far I have let mine sit overnight twice and it's almost there.

the best way i have heard about rolling the bill is to roll the sides and stick it in a coffee mug. let it sit overnight and it comes out pretty good

All of you are WAY too complicated. A simple roll and tuck is all you need. Roll it up like a burrito and then tuck the brim under the back of the hat.

Capital, you are way too into this. You act like you own a baseball hat sculpturing museum.

So sad, but so true! You can see that I have way too much time on my hands....
