Texas for offense, Louisiana for defense

Texas for sure. Imagine if we had locked up Paris, Brown, Adams, Whitley, Cannon and Hall in this class.

Louisiana. Not only would the excellent recruits coming from Louisiana give us an edge in sec play that would parlay to strong in-state recruiting but it would undercut LSU and many of the players the Mississippi and Alabama schools and Arkansas rely on. It basically gives us an inside track in the SEC West.

Dumb question. Texas has 26 Million residents. Georgia has 9 Million, and Louisiana has just 4.6 Million. So Texas has almost double the residents of both the other states, combined.

Nonetheless, the tenor of your post is wondering who has the best recruits. Some Harvard students have studied this recently, and concluded that of the three states you listed, the most per capita talent would come in this order....

1. Georgia
2. Louisiana
3. Texas

Hard to hear for many residents of Texas, but it is the truth. We are blinded by the sheer number of college level athletes but that is driven by mere population statistics, and nothing more.

Per capita. But Texas has, using your numbers, nearly three times as much population as Georgia and almost six times as much as the Bayou State. Total is the salient consideration, unless their respective per capitas are three or six times greater than Texas'. If A&M could put up a wall around Texas I think we would all, as Gen'l Forrest used to say, "abide the issue".

Might be more apples and oranges to say south texas, north texas, la, or ga. I would still probably pick either texas (preferably north and I'm from houston).

louisiana and georgia have little competition as well. lsu competes with what school in louisiana....georgia has georgia tech while in Texas you have A&M, tu, tcu, UH, smu, bu, tceh. I know smu really doesn't count, but you have a lot of Div I schools to compete with ALONG with out of state schools.

Texas is slightly more of a football state than other Southern states. That, plus the 26 million make Texas the first & best place to recruit.

Sorry for my dumb question.. Just trying to start some sort of discussion on this board.

I've always felt that as far as athletes go Georgia is the cream of the crop, and your research seems to back that up.

I'd lockdown Texas. Who cares about per capita when you have the most quality football players.

Louisiana. Being in Texas and in the SEC we will get ours regardless if we win. By locking down Louisiana we eliminate LSU as a threat and get some great talent in its own right. Those victories and our location translate to us locking down Texas by default.

No I'm not. I'm thinking about what we need to do to win the SEC and compete for national championships...not just sticking it to Texas.

A&M needs to handle itself like Florida. Lock down our state by success in our region which also makes us a power in the region for the best recruits. If A&M can be a Texan AND Southern power...that's how you win national championships.

Not to derail the OP's thread, but what if the choices were changed to:

Texas
Florida
California

Locking down Texas dilutes the other in-state programs while diminishing other SEC schools options.

LSU and Bama rely heavily on cherry picking a few elite recruits out of Texas each year.

None of the above, I would want to lock down Alabama first, followed by Louisiana.

A) Look who has won the recent MNC's
B) Look at where most of the kids on those rosters come from

What a terrible post. You don't think some of that coaching had anything to do with those MNCs? Look at where their best players came from

Lock down Texas.

Go after national talent elsewhere.

Exception: get the majority of defensive talent from Louisiana.
