If the NCAA lifted its title-game requirements, Swofford said the ACC would consider having the top two teams in the league play for the ACC championship, in addition to maintaining divisions, but not requiring teams to play every opponent in their division.
Not a bad idea for the SEC if the NCAA were to allow this. Allows the conference to stay at 8 games and also allows teams to play teams from the other division more often... i like this idea better than what we currently have..

Would need to see examples...yeah, it would be great to play Georgia, Florida, & Tenneesee more, but not necessarily at the expense of not playing Bama, LSU, or Arkansas.

Agreed that is an ideal situation. I don't see the point of divisions in that scenario. They would likely create 4 or 5 permanent rivals to maintain the rich tradition of legacy SEC teams.

I still prefer the Roommate Switch:

Moses,

With those rule changes, you could effectively do that. If you don't have to play all teams in your division then you could have 3 or 4 "permanent" division rivals and then rotate the rest.

Roommate switch. It allows for traditional rivals and in our case recent rivals as well as playing the full slate of SEC teams more often.

I don't believe there are any rules that prevent us from playing an SEC team in a non-conference game are there?
we could have a 12 game schedule of nothing but SEC teams theoretically, but have only 8 of them count toward the conference title

Amc,

I don't like that idea. It has a preseason type feel to it. The SEc has some tough decisions. If they aren't going to 9 games then they need more teams to have a solid ooc game. I'd still like that to be tu for us but other scenarios could make sense (va tech, oklahoma to name a few). The SEC v ACC is an interesting idea but logistical nightmare no conference has been able to accomplish. Maybe teams should get a "bonus" from the media pool for scheduling a ooc game with a PAC, big, bdf, or ACC team to encourage better scheduling.

If you don't play everyone in your division then you can theoretically go undefeated and not play in the championship game.

That would suck - I like the roommate switch better
