OU fan here. All I wish for Christmas is that we don't get "blankety blanked" by Alabama.
Seriously, got no idea who figured this would be a matchup. Unless the Sooners grow some big ones in the next few weeks, I don't see a competitive game.
Either way, I wish all the players on both sides the very best, and that Stoops would keep his big mouth shut.
OP, read lots of your posts in the past. Good, quality stuff. I agree that I favor Bama in this game, but it's gong to be fascinating to watch, especially given Stoops' comments. I was concerned before the Cotton Bowl last year because Bob was so haughty about the "coffee talk" about offenses v. defenses in the Big 12 vs. the SEC. He's been such a great coach for such a long time - handing my Aggies many a loss, and often by blowout - that I thought, "He must know something I don't." I was pleased to see us win, and I had the distinct impression that the higher level of competition we faced in the SEC had A LOT to do with our better showing against a school that had out-recruited us since Stoops got there in '99.
I've seen Oklahoma play against t.u., Baylor and OK St. I've seen Bama play us, Auburn, Ole Miss, State, UT and somebody else (can't remember), and my "eyeball test" tells me that Bama will likely win this game handily, but I also thought they'd beat Auburn, and I thought OK St. would beat OU. I was wrong both times. I also thought OU would beat t.u., and I was wrong there. (Damn, the sips are hard to get a good read on, for me.)
Let's see a great game, hard-fought between two talented teams, good officiating, good play-calling, and may the best team that day win the battle. God Bless.
I'll be rooting for Bama, because my impression is that the more the SEC wins, the better the conference looks to recruits and TV audiences, and that helps all schools in the conference. Also, we and Bama don't go head-to-head for nearly as many recruits as we do with OU. They beat us, fair and square, 49-42 way earlier in the year. If you can beat them, it will help you in State of Texas recruiting. Even if you lose, but by fewer than 7 points, that's something that your coaches can use with recruits. If you get pounded, it would be something that our coaches can use in recruiting. Good luck to both sides, and let's see a great freakin' football game. God Bless, Sooner.
