There is a rumor on gatorcountry that we are hiring Applewhite - if true, that seem to mean that Mack Brown is definitely leaving. Then the next piece is that Texas would hire Jimbo from FSU. Would make for interesting times in Texas if it happens.

No kidding. Here's the RC/Fran dilemma that Muschamp finds himself in though - a program where the head coach is on the hot seat with an offensive unit that has sucked for 4-5 years is not very attractive to a quality coordinator candidate. That's how RC ended up with someone like Babers and Fran had his Darnell.

Over the last 15 seasons, our very best season was 9-4 (prior to Sumlin). And last I checked, we can still match that.

Sumlin was also our first coach out of the last three to win a bowl game and he might even do it again this year.

Muschamp should take a look at Hal Mumme. In his first season at SMU the guy actually turned Garrett Gilbert who had done nothing but suck under Major Applewhite and June Jones into a QB with the #6 pass efficiency rating in the country.

When Applewhite was at Bama as the OC, it was rumored at the end of the season he was leaving and there were more than a few Ags were hoping our former HC Sherman would sign him as ours. It never materialized and Applewhite went to Texas as the RB coach. Applewhite's ascension to greatness never happened, even with the years learning his trade at the feet of Greg Davis and Brian Harasin. Applewhite is not feared by any program in the B12 or the Aggies, and that should tell you what kind of OC he would be for the Gators.

I am not sure Muschamp would want a chuck-and-duck coach like Mumme since Muschamp is so defensive minded; for example, use Muschamp's former boss Tommy Tuberville at Texas Tech as an example. Muschamp and Tubby are cut from the same cloth and Tubby spoke a good game to keep Mike Leach's offensive success going at Tech, but he was interfered with the OC and would fire them at the end of the season. IIRC, Tubby and his last OC (who I think is at UK this year) had a profanity laden shouting match at one of the games.

If Muschamp is looking for a new OC, he really, needs to find a traditional type OC worth more than Applewhite. Heck, hire Greg Davis would be a better hire than "The Major".
