unior guard Drew Coffman has informed Texas Tech coaches that he is leaving the team, which has struggled with injuries and a young roster this season.

Coffman played in 11 of the Red Raiders' 12 games this season, including four starts. The 6-foot-1 guard from Midland played the best game of his college career on Nov. 23 against Furman, when he scored 22 points in a Tech victory.

Does any coach in America have more players leave their team than in the middle of the season "just because" than Knight?

Knight has one way, his way or the highway.
Fairly simple and doesn't change just to win
a game. Knight could take a Y team and do fairly
well by shear determination.

This is one game I would be shocked if we lost. Tech just does not have it together right now, and I don't see it coming together before we play them.

Wow, Tech has already been struggling. Hate to see a player leave but I love the fact that Iowa State's game in Lubbock will be our first conference road game.

If this has any effect on Tech it will be a positive one because now they can give his scholarship to somebody much better. No offense to Justin Loewe, but this is the same situation for Tech as Loewe leaving for A&M.

Yeah but they are better than UNT and Penn St and we barely beat those guys. So if we struggle like we did in those games its very possible we could lose.

Same as A&M losing Lowe? This dude was a significant contributer and a sometimes starter. He scored 22 one game. Lowe never stepped on the court.

Dude, that was a seriously ill informed comment.

...and they lost to La Tech at home and a not so good UNLV team on the road. I will be really disappointed if we don't win this one, I think we have thngs going much more favorably than tech does right now.

I totally agree with the original comment. They are pretty much the same player.

He wasnt a significant contributer for Tech at all. He sucked! Ok so he scored 22 pts in one game this year, but in the other 10 games he scored 25 total. He was averaging 4 pts a game. The Tech fans don't see him as a loss at all. Most of them don't think he should have been playing Big 12 ball.

Have you ever watched Coffman play? I am taking it you haven't. He blows!

Significant contributer? Yeah in one game against Furman!

In 8 of his 11 games this year he scored 3 pts or less! Yeah, real significant contributor!! In the 10 other games besides the game against Furman he was averaging a whopping 2.8 ppg. How will they ever recover from a loss like that?

He sucks so bad that Knight started him for 4 games. How mant starts do you think Lowe would have got?

I haven't seen him play, but I'll trust Bob Knight's evaluation of his ability over either of yalls.

He sucks!! I imagine Bob Knight thought he sucked too. I dont think he thought he sucked when he signed him, but I bet the staff is happy he quit because now they have a scholarship freed up. Now he can use that scholarship to sign a big man.

If you gave me the choice of Coffman or Loewe, I am taking Loewe. Neither is going to do much for you, but Justin is quicker and more athletic.

What part of Knight started him for 4 games is hard to understand?

Do you think Knight is the habit of starting guys that suck? Is it your contention that 6 or 7 of the scholarships players at Tech "shouldn't be playing in the Big 12?" For 4 games, Knight started him over those guys.

I like how the one guy that hasn't ever seen the kid play is arguing that he isnt a bad player!

Yeah he started some games for Tech, that doesn't mean he is any good. Tech runs a 3 guard offense and one of their starting guards got hurt the first game of the season. Their choices for the 3rd guards spot after that were Coffman and two freshmen. Martin (one of the freshmen) has started 8 games and he has a little something. However he got in Knight's doghouse for a while and so is was either Coffman or Voskiul that had to start. Coffman started 4 games and Voskiul started 3. So basically Tech had 6 guards on their roster and they run a 3 guard offense. One starter went down, the 4th guard got in the doghouse and so it came down to the 5th and 6th guards Voskiul (true freshman) and Coffman for that other starting spot.

Its funny that you say that because that is exactly what some Tech fans think.

Like I said, I'll trust Bob Knight's evaluation of his talent ahead of yours, whether I've seen him or not.

Ummm...Ive been a spectator in this argument since I havent seen the kid play much...but this last past doesnt exactly make everything seem OK that this guy is leaving...the guy may suck horribly...but I cant see how its a good thing if youve already got depth problems at his spot...

Well Martin is out of the doghouse and apparantly White (the starter who got hurt the first game of the season) will be back this weekend.

Tech is playing for the future right now, I dont think they are going to make the NCAA tournament this year. So having Coffman next year vs signing a big man for next year, I side with the big man.
