I am not a bball expert and have just started following our basketball teams from this year. Can anyone make a comparison on how much better Texas is than us?

I don't know, we split last year with them. They looked pretty bad against duke and tenn.

We really have not played anybody to know where we stand. I feel we should be better that last year.

Here's a thought. Everything DOES NOT have to be compared to Texas.

The reason I am looking for a comparison is because Texas is ranked and I don't get the impression that they are that good this year. Maybe I am wrong. If you want to compare with other Big 12 teams, lets hear it.

who says texas is better than us at all?

the polls??

the polls said they were better last year also.

just some food for thought....(and yes if i had to choose I would put the money on texas if there was some magic evaluator other than head to head of who was a better team....but at this point in the season i just dont understand conceeding to anybody especially with the record we have)

we will have a few match up problems with t.u.
thye have a good 7 footer who will cause some problems. Tucker at forward may be their best overall player and not sure right now who we have that can handle him. Gibson is a good point guard. they probably have better outside shooting than we do. Brad Buckman inside is a very good and expierenced player.
we won't sneak up on them this year.
we have to play them in Austin first this year.

Hopefully, we can win at home and give ourselves a chance to win at the end in Austin.

They have MUCH more talent than we do -- very few teams have a foursome like Aldridge (awesome -- an All American and top-5 NBA pick next year), Tucker, Buckman, and Gibson. But, we have more hustle and we play a very intense, hard-nosed style of basketball, which cuts that talent advantage a bit...especially at home in CS. With our crowd support/home court advantage, we have a shot to beat them at Reed...prolly no shot to beat them in Austin unless they lay an egg and/or lose a few key guys to injury. A split would be HUGE for us, though. BTW, the talent differential will narrow SIGNIFICANTLY next year after Texas loses Aldridge, Buckman, and (most likely) Gibson. There's even a chance that Tucker will go pro a year early as an undersized PF.

Hope this helps.

Texas has maybe the overall most talented starting five in college basketball. of course that is highly debatable with the likes of duke

Actually there is realy no debate as to whether Duke has a more tallented starting five. Duke is hands down more tallented than tu not only in the front five, but on the bench as well. And as far as tu having one of the most tallented starting fives compared to the rest of the schools this year: you don't get demolished at home by the likes of Tennessee if that staement is anywhere near the truth. tu may have a more tallented starting five than the ags, but there are several staring fives in the nation more tallented than fexa$$. As far as Aldridge being a problem for us, i don't see it so much with Jones garding the paint.

Aldridge and Jones is gonna be so fun to watch. Hell, when Aldrige goes to the bench the Jones-Tucker matchup will be incredible too. I think our guards can play with thier guards. I'm worried about who guards Tucker and/or Buckman though...

If we can split with tu this year, coach G is a
miracle worker.

As I recall they finished better than us in Big12 play, won at least one Big12 tourney game, had a better record against teams ranked in the top 150 and went further in the NCAA tourney than us which probably makes them better than us, which would make the polls correct ???? Duh.

Texas is loaded with talent this year, but they are still young and immature and are still getting the team chemistry down. They will be a force at seasons end. That being said, I still expect the Aggies to beat them in Reed.

I'll try to give an unbiased opinion of this team RIGHT NOW.

Starters: Aldridge: Easily the most talented player on our team right now. He isn't anywhere near his potential yet, but he is a monster when he gets the ball, and he can rebound with the best of them. His problem right now is he still needs to get stronger so that he can fight for the ball down low. Has decent range for a big man.

Buckman: Senior leader on this team. This team is poopy (yes poopy) without him in the lineup(see Tennessee game and sheldon williams abusing mike williams after buckman got hurt.) He has the most complete game on this team right now. He's strong enough to get open inside, can handle the ball decently for a big man, and has very good range for a big man. Also plays good defense. He missed almost three weeks with an injury, but in his first game back scored 20 points and got abou 8 rebounds in 20 minutes against PV A&M, sure it's PV A&M, but not bad for a half.

Tucker: Undersized as a SF and PF. Still doesn't handle the ball well enough or shoot well enough to play SF. He still plays great offense down low, and can play great defense on less athletic SF's. Forces alot of steals. Probably the most polished player on this team, at least as far as his post skills.

Paulino: Undersized, plays poor defense, a streaky shooter who can be deadly when he's on, and doesn't pass or ballhandle particularly well. Would make a decent 6th or 7th man.

Gibson: Still is not good enough at passing and ballhandling to play PG. Forces the issue too much. Doesn't dribble penetrate as much as he should. Is usually a good shooter, but has been ice cold almost all this year. Also plays bad defense and gets burned by quick PG's.

Bench: Mike Williams: Undersized PF who doesn't have good enough range to play the position he wants to, SF. Is still not quite as strong as he needs to be. Gets owned by bigger, stronger PF's. Is a pretty good rebounder considering his size, but has next to no offensive game.

Abrams: Possibly the best shooter on the team so far this year. Has played better than Gibson at PG despite being very small. Pretty quick, but still plays freshman defense. Shout start at point with Gibson at 2 IMO.

Atchley: Tall, lanky post who has great shooting touch for a Big man, but doesn't play particularly good because he's not very strong. Also doesn't play very good defense because of his size. Relies and slapping too much and ends up with quick fouls.

JD Lewis: Not qucik enough to play great defense. Looks to shoot before he passes, and sometimes hits the three, but is not consistent enough to have that attitude. Not bad for a first year player IMO.

Winder: A decent shooter who hustles his ass off and is very versatile. Can play SG and SF pretty well, and can sometimes play the point if needed. Still gets next to none PT.

Basically, we have possibly the best frontcourt in the nation, but the gaurds are poor at passing and ballhandling, and none of our guards are great defenders.

I like our chances of a split again this year. NON ONE gave us a chance to beat tu last year and we blew them off the Reed court. There is a talent gap, but this year's Aggie team is more savvy and have another year of BCG's coaching under their belt. Injuries and team health will be a factor. Next year the talent gap will narrow significantly.

redick is a lottery pick this year, there is no way 15 or 20 guys will be picked ahead of him. and not included on your list above is demarcus nelson, who will probably make the nba as well. just because someone says gibson is a great talent doesn't make him a great player. that being said, the team with the most talent is memphis, if you want a better look at them watch them dismantle texas in a few days.

Redick in the bottom 3rd?????????????????????????

*********there are some idiots on here, I can't stop laughing

and Gibson is a horrible PG & it remains to be seen if he can be a factor against good comp at the 2

They are a better team with Abrams at the point

Redick in the bottom 3rd, and I thought Dev was the lone true dildo here

Oh, and Paulus was the NUMBER 1, yes #1 recruit last year

To say he isn't on the NBA radar is almost as funny as the Redick comment

I love this site

I don't think Reddick in the bottom third of the first round is out the question. He is a great shooter yes, but he is not a terribly good passer or ballhandler. He is basically a true 3, but at 6'4, he's an undersized 2 in the NBA. If he continues to improve on his dribble penetration and passing, then he will be a lottery pick no doubt.

Not sure what site ranked Paulus number 1. Rivals had him at 11 and Scout had him 18. Are you thinking of fellow Duke Freshman Josh McRoberts? He was number 1 on Scout and number 2 on Rivals. He would be a lottery pick barring injury this year, but may choose to come back for another year.

My bad on Paulus, he was the number 1 athlete recruit, he was also a top QB prospect, the sentiment is the same

I am pretty fricking positive that NBA scouts are WELL aware of him

Also, Redick is the best pure shooter to come out in YEARS. Size & pure shooting are the 2 most desired traits of any NBA prospect. He will be a lottery pick end of story
