In spite of popular opinion, these guys (NBA players) aren't as selfish as most think:
“I am proud to announce that not only will we meet the [$1 million] obligation, but we decided that our contributions would be no less than the contributions that we made on behalf of the victims of the World Trade Center. While we actually did not publicize that contribution, we actually gave $2.5 million dollars to that relief effort.'
“Steph [Marbury] indicated to me that he’s currently pledging to contribute between $500,000 to one million dollars to the effort, and that he’s assured that that contribution will be made over a few seasons.”
Allan Houston (New York Knicks) “My friend Lindsey Hunter, who lives in Jackson, Miss., called me. He didn’t call Billy Hunter. He didn’t call Feed the Children. He just got a couple of trucks and went down there and helped out people who were coming through the water. We’re supposed to do this. Everyone can do something.”
