I don't know what smarmy means, but to question Bill Byrne's motives is ludicrous. Who cares if the Nebraska folks hated him? What makes Nebraska so special? They ran a thug-infested football team for 30+ years, have no more basketball tradition than A&M and have only been a factor in baseball for the last 8 or 10 years. Nebraska lives on a football reputaiton built in the '60s. Byrne wanted to modernize things and the NU fans turned on him. Sounds like they're a bunch of narrow-minded blowhards to me.
Give Byrne time. We will win (even more) and we will get even better facilities. The problems created during the Groff, Crow and Sherrill eras can not be fixed over night. We have one of the best collections of coaches in the nation. Sure, some still need some upgrading, but at least we're to the point now that Coaches Henry, Blair and Gillispie will even consider coming here. Do you think any prominent coaches would have even given A&M a second look 5 years ago? No way in H-E-double-L would any high profile have even sent a resume to A&M prior to Byrne's arrival. Now we've got the pick of the litter when we need to make a coaching change.
I LOVE the direction of the A&M Athletic Department and if it costs me a few dollars more for tickets, then so be it. I'd rather be a little lighter in the wallet supporting a winner than I would be a little more flush with my funds, but being forced to watch a bunch of mediocre or awful teams like we were doing in the not-so-distant past.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
