Yeah, that isn't exactly true. First of all, there are only 16 teams in the preseason NIT, so not everyone from the real NIT can make it, and second of all, you can only play in a tournament like this once every four years. Typically, if go deep in the postseason NIT, they invite you to the next season's preseason NIT if you are eligible. Last year, Michigan won the NIT and they went to the preseason NIT this year, but the runner-up Rutgers didn't go. They also invite some NCAA tournament teams from the previous year like Wake Forest, Arizona, and Providence this year. But since we don't qualify for any of those exceptions, I would imagine we'd get invited to the preseason NIT if we can make it as far as maybe the semifinals or maybe the round of 8.
