GT down by one when refs blow the whistle on Jack, several replays show there was absolutely no foul. Makes me mad that Duke wins on a call like this

Big 12 refs suck.

Oh, wait.

The title is slightly deceptive as Duke was up by 1 and Gtech had to foul there. The only reason it hurt was the foul put JJ on the line.

They weren't even trying to foul...and the contact was initiated by Reddick. GT probably still would have lost, but that's a horrible way to lose. The kids are playing their hearts out and they end up having the game given away like that. Tough, but the refs did a pretty good job other than that.

GT lost because they didn't block out S.Williams.

Not to mention the murder's row combo of Melchionni and David McClure Duke trotted out at the end of the game.

Nobody can stop those two.

Did Duke self-impose some type of scholarship ban only allowing them like 4 scholarships? They haven't had a normal number of players in a few years.

Losing Deng and Livingston to the NBA Draft really hurt their depth this year.

Jarret Jack was reaching around JJ Redick long before the foul was called. Jack had a hand full of jersey.

The 5/8 rule has been killing them for years with transfers and players leaving early for the NBA. They could have signed more late last spring when it was removed by Coach K decided to wait until next year instead of just signing some average players late.

Duke made one FG (the Williams tip) in the the final 12 minutes. GA Tech has nobody to blame but themselves.

Neither Deng nor Livingston was much of a surprise. Even counting those 2, they only have 2 post players (Randolph and Williams). And, only 8 overall legitimate D1 players (not counting Melchionni and McClure, they were nobodies when they got to college) - Dockery, Ewing, Reddick, Nelson, Randolph, WIlliams and the 2 who went early.

Why don't they have more players?

Because of the 5/8 rule. They lost players to the NBA and lost players to transfer.

Are you saying Melchioni and McClure were nobodies?

Sure it was a bad call, but to assume G Tech would have won otherwise is silly. The shot clock was off, Duke was inbounding, and they had a 1 point lead. G Tech would have ended up fouling anyway in all likelihood.

1.) They would have fouled anyway.
2.) I'm glad because I had Duke -4 and won $300.

Melchioni started out as a walk on (with a promise of a later scholarship) and McClure never comes off the bench for a team with zero depth. Neither were Top 50 players (a minimum for Duke) and were only occasionally listed on Top 100 lists.

How did the 5/8 rule hurt them? Their only would-be Soph is Deng. They signed 3 players this year (McClure, Nelson, and Livingston). They couldn't have signed a Top 50 or so post player this year?

Melchioni was a consesus top 100 player. He had offers from other schools but wanted to walkon at Duke.

McClure was the Conn. player of the year.

both would get many minutes for the Aggies.

Duke got their share of bad calls and 'no calls.' Duke had to beat the refs AND the team. Go Dukies!

They made an even worse call when they allowed the Duke player to run the baseline on an inbounds play when NO basket had been made. The kid ran about 8 feet and no call. Hewitt was beside himself. The announcers never said a darned thing about it.
