Just got back from the game. what a dump. a gold roof is entirely unnecessary. What is it with the state of texas and sh!##y college bball arenas?

the USA is not bad, IMO.

I meant the drum - possibly the ugliest building that ever was constructed, Reed - which fell apart before it was even completed, and now Ferrel (sp?).

I dont' think Reed is some spectacular piece of architecture, but it certainly isn't a ****ty dump as you describe it. The drum is only ugly on the outside.

I think that might be a mistake, because I went to the game in 1999 I believe, and we won that one on a last second shot by Chris Clayton if I remember correctly.

I know it may not fit this post, but I couldn't help thinking about Barone and his crew being gassed at the Ferrel Center when it was new or almost new. How ever its spelled.

Just got back from the game. Antoine Wright is NBA ready now. Baylor focused on shutting him down, and he still dominated. Kind of looked like he was toying with the other players all game. I walked away thinking he'll be a draft pick.

Aaron Bruce is an absolute baller. Posters can hate him b/c he goes to Baylor, so say what you have to say. I have no problem with him being FOY, possibly national FOY. The kid is awesome.

No need to be a hater--if you think the Ferrell Center's a dump, then you haven't been around much. Keep in mind that it is 10 years older than Reed, and it's still at least on par with Reed. The ONLY thing Reed has on the Ferrell Center is the plush seats, but that's it, and honestly, who cares about that?

The red brick and golden dome look great, as does the rest of the athletic complex down University Parks Drive. Take a drive from the Ferrell Center towards I-35, looking at the Ferrell Center, the baseball and softball fields, the tennis center, the new science building, the student life center, the new law school, the new (Strecker?) museum...their architecture kicks our ass, dude.

If you want to complain about something, fine, but you look silly on this one.

Focusing strictly on the Ferrell Center, it's not on par with Tech's, but then again whose is?

Disclaimer: I grew up in Waco, so I still have some affinity for the Bears when they're not playing us.

Not as harshly as conroe, but I have to disagree guit. Considering they use it as a multi-function arena the same way we use Reed, it is a pretty good place to watch a basketball seats. I alwasy seem to get what seem to be bad seats, but you have a good view form anywhere in there. Its actually a really nice facility. In fact, due to the bad state of other texas facilities, I would put it in my to 5 or so college arenas in the state.

Now, if you want to see a REALLY bad D-1 basketball "arena"--go to Autry Court at Rice.

Even G. Rollie would be a major step up from that.

Actually Texas Southern even has a better arena than Rice.

Keep in mind this is baylor, last in the big 12. Everyone is so sure that Wright is gone next year, but personally I think he needs another year to grow.

The FC is a penthouse comapred to baylor's old home. I remember as a kid growing up in Waco, watching baylor basketball games at the Heart of Texas Coliseum. Now that was a dump back then.

Yeah, HOT Coliseum sucks. That sucked about Baylor with their football, basketball, and track complexes scattered around Waco. At least the Ferrel Center is on campus. Wonder if Drayton will ever pony up for an on campus football stadium?

Also, Aw looked good today, but I kept wondering if he would look that good facing NBA talent. My guess is no. Would another year at A&M help; I don't know. Billy Clyde has the right message, though. They'll talk about it after the season and give him info to help him decide. Very smart. We may lose AW for one more year, but I think it will sit well with recruits to know BCG will do what's best for them.

Harry Miller & Co. went o-fer in the big 12 so I know it isn't your first win there.

Rice smack !!! That's really an ingenious retort. A private school with about 2200 undergrads - and comapring their bball to schools with 10,000 to 45,000 students. Well, that's simply brillant.

Don't forget they won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in base ball a year ago. Again. with the smallest Div I school in the land.

Sure the buildings look nice, but they all look the same. That and the fact that there are hardly any trees leads me to say I'd take our campus anyday.

As for Ferrel, I don't think the place looked bad. It was different from Reed, but not in a bad way.

The A/C is another story though. You think they'd atleast have the money to keep the temperature decent. If I had to play there I would prolly wanna shooot somebody myself.

yeah, thats it. i "havent been around much." little do you know... being that i have been to historic bball arenas WORLD over i will let that slide. Texas Basketball stadiums ARE dumps. how can one of the richest states lose so much talent? stadiums arent the only answer, but certainly dont help Texas' causes. with the population that Texas has, TEXAS STATE should be a perennial NIT squad. whatever... i dont know a thing about basketball, and i suck at life.

he's also about 22 and been doing nothing but playing basketball the past 4 years in australia. but of course, baylor has strict academics...[/cough]

I have to say with all due respect to the Farrell Center that going yesterday made me appreciate Reed more. The seating behind both baskets was worse than the temporary seating on the one end of Reed. I know this is due to space constraints as there is hardly any room behind the baskets, but wow, that's not helpful to the atmosphere.

And whoever talked about Autry Court was spot on. A really big curtain behind one of the baskets with intramural ping pong on the other side? Incredible.

Forgive us B/CS. It's in our nature to embellish to prove a point. It's like how we say we outnumber fans at road games when we don't.
