This could work. We lose Agee who was an elite rebounder but bring in more height and return Mgbako. I'm hopeful for Vinson and Phillips.

In the limited time last season that Mgbako played I didn't see him as an inside threat but more of a lengthy player who looked to score from the outside rather than the paint but I maybe misremembering

Better length all around - expect our rebounding will be better for various reasons.

That is correct remembrance of what we saw. He's transformed his body though, so curious to see if that translates to changes in his game

I am hoping Phillips will average 7-8 rebs to offset the loss of Agee.

Article in the Eagle this morning specifically talks about his focusing on becoming a better rebounder, with Bucky complimenting his efforts to be a more physical player. I have hopes he'll be a much improved inside/outside player.

Mgbako was also playing on a broken foot. Let's keep that in mind

There's several layers here that make the whole situation interesting.

One, we sucked at defensive rebounding last year overall, so we needed to get better before even factoring in how we were going to replace the one guy that was actually good at it.

Two, it would be hard not to be better at it considering we started maybe the worst natural rebounder I've ever seen at the four spot last year. For all of the nice things you could say about Dominguez, he was an atrocious rebounder and was basically our defensive 4 man most of the time.

Three, he was the four man because Rylan Griffen was somehow an even worse rebounder than Dominguez. The two of them managed to pull down 3.3 and 3.1 defensive boards per 40 minutes. Only player on the team who actually played that was worse was Jacari Lane. 3.3 and 3.1 from the guys starting and playing about 25 minutes a game at the 3-4 spots is almost impossibly bad. That's worse than Wade Taylor at defensive rebounding.

I say all this because you look at Agee and it's hard to imagine Vinson or anyone else making up for his 6.1 defensive and 8.7 total rebounds per game, but when you add in ALL of the players at those spots it looks a lot easier. After Agee the next highest per-game defensive rebounder last year was Clemence with a whole 2.2 defensive rebounds per game.
