I would say that's probably a no. Otherwise, I would think that Luke would've already mentioned it.

You should talk to his parents. Yes the plan is for Evan to play both. He has talked with both coaches and Bucky has told him how they run their offense.

He may not play both but to say it is not happening is wrong. He went to A&M with the expectation of playing both.

I'll add that Martellus only got decent minutes vs LSU because we desperately needed bigger athletes vs Big Baby and Tyrus Thomas.

Once BCG was able to upgrade the talent at A&M, there wasn't going to be any PT (or patience) with a part-time basketballer.

He got some decent minutes in general that year though. He played about the same number of minutes as Vinson did for us last year. Which is significant, especially considering he was a true freshman. He actually ended up playing some pretty crucial minutes in some games, especially late against Colorado is one I remember.

But yeah, the next year he didn't join the team full time until a month later because the football team made a bowl game. Combine starting a whole month later with the basketball team being much better and it's just next to impossible, even for an athlete like Martellus and even in a, let's say effort-first basketball program like BCG was running.

I think that's probably the biggest reason why it's hard to play both at a high level these days. It was already extremely hard, but now college basketball has become a more athletic and open court skill game even for the bigger players. Being in the kind of short-burst-explosive play-to-play shape you need to be in to play football isn't the same kind of shape you need to be in for basketball if you're going to be any good at it.

At 6-5 Jacobson is big on the football field and he's going to be getting in tight end shape to block and catch passes over the middle of the field. On the basketball court that's an inch shorter than Hayden Hefner and he'd be a perimeter player that needs to be quick laterally to be able to guard anyone or be anything more than a spot shooter on offense. (Edit: should say a 6-5 post is not completely unheard of, we had one last year, but they have to be a truly special player and have insane rebounding instincts/skills)

Martellus was recruited heavily by Coach K and Duke to play basketball. He was a very good basketball player.

I think missing BCG's fall basketball training and part of the season is what kept him from finding his groove.

Here's some video of him in the Drew League (pro-am league) a few moons back. He can flat out hoop.

He was going a million miles an hour when he would get into a game as I remember, dribbling the ball off his feet, etc. I'm sure he wasn't as terrible as I recall but yeah him filling a limited big man goon role makes sense.

I think it's just the only role he could play without keeping his basketball skills sharp. That's the real issue.
