Game Preview
We took care of business Wednesday, now it's time to take care of business once again tonight. In a week it's March. Every game is magnified. Every game is meaningful and dramatic. Tonight we are on the road in Norman and how vital would it be to get conference win number 9 and number 19 overall.
A rematch is in the books after the Aggies beat Oklahoma in Reed Arena in early January by 7. The Aggies are now 8-5 in the conference while the Sooners sit at 3-10. Ou has been in many games but blown leads. They lost 9 in a row before earning a huge upset on the road to beat Vandy, then easily beating Georgia at home. Then in their last game they lost by 23 to Tennessee.
Oklahoma continues to be led by their two guards Nigel Pack and Xzayvier Brown. They're averaging 16.1 and 15.7. They don't have exceptional size, but their forwards Davis, Reid, and Wague are solid. They don't have the physicality of Agee. Agee last time against OU had 16 points and 12 rebounds.
What really helped us in that last matchup was our physicality and press. We turned OU over 17 times. We also shot 21 of 25 free throws and made 11 of 31 threes. I want to see an aggressive style of play tonight. Let's feed our bigs and let Agee and Clemence do some work. Let's drive to the paint and attack or kick out to some open shooters. We are starting to see some consistency in scorers like Agee, Hill, and Clemence, but we need others to get to double figures in any which way. We need to be more efficient throughout the game. Let's turn them over and get some stops. Last game we had no transition points and that's not our style.
With only 5 games left (OU, Arky, tu, Kentucky, and LSU), each game presents a huge opportunity. We can't afford a loss to Oklahoma. Thankfully we were able to bounce back against Ole Miss after the 4 game skid. While Wednesday wasn't pretty, it was the result we needed. Right now wins and losses are what matter. Our style of basketball isn't going to pretty for 40 minutes. We have to wear teams down, we have to go on runs, we have to pull stops out of nowhere, we might have to score 95, we just have to do whatever it takes to win. It's almost March, just win. Let's go BTHO ou and keep our sights set on getting into the dance!
