Buzz finished tied for the most losses ever for Maryland basketball.

I'd be very interested in if Payne sticks around. He surely will get offers to join better programs, but he may be too far gone down the Buzz path to leave now.

In reply to Fairview20 Payne's done unless he gets some kind of special medical waiver. He played in more games than you can usually play in to qualify for a medical redshirt but maybe they'll approve it anyways, who knows these days, but theoretically he's done.

Buzz's initial season at Maryland is complete at a record of 12-21 (4-16 conference). And they finish 17th in the conference out of 18 teams. They finished 15 games behind Michigan with a 20 game conference schedule. Maryland lead early in the second half today but then gave up a 21-0 run and lost by 11 points.

what makes this season more of an embarrassment for buzz is he shamelessly stole a&m's team coming back and he still sucked big time..

No.

Buzz made tens of millions of dollars at A&M and was given everything he needed to succeed. Yet he made a conscious decision to show zero loyalty, zero decency, & zero respect for Aggies.

To make matters worse, he attempted to sabotage our school and its basketball program. The only difference between him and Schlootnozle is that ****nuggie was actually a good coach, but both are world class, pathetic dewshes.

Look I am old school. This is how I am living in the new world of athletics. There is no loyalty from coach to player. I choose not to get emotionally involved. Buzz was the last one that I liked, he was good, charismatic and I thought we needed that. It's business, they don't perform, get out! I will love you if you are A&M. It comical to see Maryland have 12 wins and a gutted YMCA roster win 20+games. Love being an Aggie!

After 2 tourney wins in six years, the AD and Administration may have given him pretty strong signals that it was time to move on.

Bucky is better in every aspect - coach, person, communicator, likability, etc. and we are all thrilled to have him representing A&M.

I wanted Buzz for many years before we got him. I backed him through the rough years. In the last two years, he really started to rub me sour. His recruiting was abysmal. His player development was non-existent. His transfer portal game was solid and kept us going. But it was clear that this year was going to be a trainwreck had he stayed.

The best outcome happened. And now that I'm rosy glasses fully off on him, it's amazing the amount of red flags I can spot from a distance when knowing how he operates.

I would say his working the transfer portal was just ok. He had some solid to great adds like Payne (who he underutilized most of last season) and Coleman... BUT, Buzz likely should have sent several guys packing prior to his last year and got some more scorers + play Mills. Instead, he rolled with his weak bench last year and it definitely hurt our season.

I am glad we were able to get a program reset with his exit and fully believe we're better off with Bucky, but I don't get being upset with how he left. Sure it was late in the cycle, but the whole "poached the roster" complaint in the portal era doesn't make sense to me. If Buzz was leaving, none of the few guys we had were likely staying here regardless of whether they followed Buzz or went elsewhere. He had Rice on a visit here when he took the job, so sure he followed as well, but it isn't like Rice was coming to A&M for A&M, it would have been for Buzz. This is all just a product of the way the game works now when a coach leaves or is fired. If we really wanted to keep certain guys from last year's team, we could have paid up to do so, similar to what Texas did. We wisely chose not to because it would have been overpaying for replaceable players.

This is not even me defending Buzz, its just not understanding being upset about how it went down. It is still fun to watch him lose now and know that Maryland would have been us and I'm sure glad we're on a different trajectory.

It's the pre-meditated, scorched earth, don't give a damn about what's in my wake method that bothers me.
