I read on another site that he has been a professional player in Spain the past couple of years. Is this correct?

Yes, it is....and he can shoot the 3 kinda good.

Yeah, it's truly wild.

Dominguez is 22 years old, he's five months older than Wade Taylor. And he's been legit playing pro basketball for a few years. Against grown dudes. And not in some like knock-off league. The Spanish league (Liga ACB) is probably second behind the Euroleague as far as non-NBA basketball leagues go. His team's last regular season game in May was against Barcelona which starts Jabari Parker and Justin Anderson (played at Virginia from '12-'15, Drafted by the Mavericks in 2015)

He's got to be the only recruit in the world where playing in the SEC is a step down in competition.

We're not the only school doing it though, Illinois signed three guys off the same pro team in Montenegro.

He's going to have to adjust to how physical the american college game, especially in the SEC, is and how handsy they let defenders be, but if he can adjust fairly quickly I'm not sure he's not our best player.

When will we see if Agee gets his letter of eligibility? Thought they would come out together.

I officially have no understanding of amateur athletics in the NCAA any more.

Also, heck yeah.

I'd have loved to be in the room to see how they landed on two years of eligibility. I imagine it's like the South Park economy scene with the chicken with its head cut off.

As soon as Bucky said this guy went 70/70 in practice from 3, I was going to be absolutely distraught if he wasn't granted any eligibility. Let's go!

First they cut up the pig and grabbed its innards to get the casings ready…

very good analysis and i can't disagree with the statement on how good he might be. if he happens to be one of our best players with the other proven players we have brought in we have a chance to have a decent team. it will be a lot of fun to watch.

If he is a 100% 3-point shooter, then your entire offense is simply centered around trying to get him open to take the shot, correct? We should get pitch forks out on Bucky if this guy is not taking at least 40 3-point attempts per game (and thus presumably averaging about 120 ppg)? I mean, if you got a 100% 3-point shooter on your roster….the math is what the math is and would be criminal to not use him like I used to use Glen Rice when playing NBA Jam
bobinator

The good thing is even if shooting is all he can do at least the defense has to guard him everywhere he goes which will create space for everyone else too.

I still don't think people appreciated enough how hard Wade Taylor's job was when at any given time we had at least two guys on the court the defense didn't even have to guard. We were terrible at screening and passing anyway, but even if we weren't, no amount of brilliant scheming is going to overcome the defense being able to play 5 on 3.

Not going to delude myself on a college Steph Curry level shooter, but what if Dominguez is as impactful as say a Caleb Grill on Mizzou roster last season? If you got that sort of production and 3-point threat from the guy, that would be pretty great.
bobinator
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's going to be interesting to see what our lineups look like because one thing Dominguez has going for him is he's much taller than Grill. He shouldn't need quite as much space. We also have the potential to throw out a huge lineup that would be really hard to guard and could get smaller defenders on Dominguez.

I think the thing on Dominguez on whether he's a nice role piece or if he's maybe our best player is whether he can guard anyone any good at all.

I watched his full highlight reel and can confirm 100% from 3

Shooting 100% from 3 is going to make for some long games because the opponent is going to foul Domnguez the moment he touches the ball. Hope Bucky is factoring that in.

72 for 72 sir.

And those 2 aren't meaningless considering how rare it was for anybody on our team to hit 2 straight last season.

Caleb Grill is exactly who I see as Dominguez's player comp from the SEC. Likely having a similar role coming off the bench and shooting 5 plus threes a game. That would be a huge boost.

Grill came off the bench but he played the second most minutes on Mizzou's team.

I'm really curious what we're going to do from a rotation/sub strategy standpoint. This roster seems to potentially lend itself to a line-change strategy that's really rare in college basketball but could be interesting.

Obviously depends on Agee being cleared because that's going to make a massive difference on how much flexibility we have.

Yeah I don't see Dominguez playing top five minutes on the team. And I completely agree that Agee's decision is super important on the outlook of this roster and rotation. With him, he's eating up starting forward minutes, without him, thats a lot of minutes in the front court to put on Federiko and Mgbako, when you really need them fresh. I like where Dominguez stands as one of the first guards off the bench. They've got 11 guys (assuming Agee gets his waiver) that I would trust to play 10 plus minutes a game: Issacs, Hill, Griffen, Mgbako, Agee, Federiko, Lane, Dominguez, Dibba, Holloway, and Clemence. Vinson and McDermott could give you 5 minutes a game if needed too.
