Just states that many of us knew even going into this year regarding 6 yrs is about as long Buzz sticks around a program. This guy claims to be his master plan all along as Buzz builds the base and then leaves cuz you can't please anyone at that point and they forget where he brought the program from.

Hindsight 20-20 into the past season, there were a few signs that this was coming (after the fact), but wish the had AD prepared for it (not totally his fault if Buzz playing poker with him).

To me, the biggest issue, recruiting has been subpar to build that base going forward (1 or 2 better than avg.), but it is moot in this day and age w portal and NIL.

And what makes you think the AD wasn't prepared for it? Because it's been two days and we haven't hired anyone yet?

If this is really how he thinks, it's a losers mentality and I am glad he is gone. If that is truly his makeup, it makes perfect sense he has good teams but never great.

Did the AD miss on the target coach? Or are we just ignoring that whole part and being patient little Aggies?

I would never pretend to be a psychiatrist, but I know Buzz grew up an only child and his parents divorced when young. **edit - some assumptions were here made on bad info

I don't think childhood was smooth sailing and it may impact some of these behaviors, which are unusual for sure. He does not want to get fired, or to lose support, and wants to be in control of his situation. He's a one off for sure, nobody else like him.

He's a loner and why he needs to leave but this article leaves out fans were already disgruntled with him after year 3 here. If he didn't pull out that winning streak we'd hired McCasland.

We are so bad at picking coaches we are glad when they leave???

He could possibly be right, however, we are a hungry program with the potential to go beyond the sweet 16 ceiling. If he had done things the right way and changed how he relates to the fans and the administration, he might have had a healthier NIL. He's so much in his own bubble that he cannot see that what he's trying to accomplish is a lot easier than he makes it out to be.

If after 6 years, he leaves because he can't do better here, that's a short sighted look (and that's really on him), but also an excuse to leave for a better program.

The target saying no doesn't equate to not being prepared. What were you gonna do? Hold a gun to beards head and make him come here?

I don't think anyone was caught off guard by this. Literally half of this board could see it coming.

Most people even knew it was possible when we hired him. We hoped that maybe we'd be the program to convince him to stay OR that he'd at least have built up a solid foundation before he left but then all the rules of college sports changed in the six years he's been here.

Based on his history, how he treated people and how he built this team this year it was glaringly obvious to many that he was on his way out after this year.

You can't be serious? Less than 24 hours after Buzz leaves and we have a great offer to our #1 target and his current employer comes in and sweetens his current deal, so he decides to stay. I mean, in order to have that kind of money and other financial guarantees (NIL) available to offer him doesn't happen last minute. That takes time, so that means Trev has been preparing for Buzz's exit. You can nitpick Trev for other things, but this isn't one of them. He got his ducks in a row before this so he could act quickly if it come to fruition.

It's amazing that you think that we're the only school that doesn't get their top target. IIRC, he turned down Arkansas last season who moved on to Calipari, which seems to have worked out for them. Good coaches have schools come after them every season and their current schools want to keep them. Some take the new job while others stay. Shocker.

He took us from tied for 6th in the SEC in his first year to 5th in his last.
He did raise the expectations to being at the 2nd weekend of the NCAA tournament. He just couldn't deliver on such lofty goals.

Fun fact:
We've had 4 coaches in the last 20 years.
- 2 took us to the sweet 16
- the other 2 went to Maryland

There is some misleading information on Buzz (real name is Brent) in Complete Idiot's post. Buzz's biological father is named Jim, who was a math teacher at Greenville at the time of Buzz's birth in 1972. Jim and Buzz's birth mother did divorce when Buzz was very young. Jim subsequently moved to Van Alysyne and married one of my wife's classmates, Connie, in 1976 when Buzz was about 4. They are still married. They had a daughter, Sarah, who is Buzz's half-sister. He became head of the math department and helped get my wife, and generations of others, get through Algebra I and II. Jim is now going through Alzheimer's. His childhood was far from difficult.

As former sports editor of The Battalion, I had recently sent him note commending of how he handled some young journalist's questions and offering career advice. I've always admired his intellect and thought sharing with the media. I'm sorry to see him go. I thought he was an excellent ambassador to the University.

Thanks for the correction. Did William's birth mother pass away when he was fairly young? Did he live with Jim and Connie throughout his childhood?

Looks like he makes a 6 year plan, loads up on seniors the last year and then bolts, which leaves the program with basically very little talent and in a poor state. lol, it's an interesting case. I wonder if eventually programs see that he'll leave it worse than he found it and don't want to hire him.

I am guessing the clock is ticking on his coaching days. If he doesn't do big things at MD, he will start going backwards in the coaching ranks and end up at a mid major or low end D1 job most coaches don't want.

After listening to Aaron Torres in Ta radio, outsiders are seeing he is a job hopper.

Maybe he was ahead of the game and was reading the tea leaves. Problem is, he lacks the killer instincts of being a deal maker. Most importantly....get the ink!

He should have NEVER allowed Beard to communicate back to Ole Miss. He ROYALLY screwed that up and clearly is NOT much of a negotiator.

You tell Beard.....take it or leave it. You must sign now or this offer isnt valid. Yes, takes some balls. But you gotta do it and not buy into all the BS that Beard fed you. Clearly he learned ZERO from Schloss.

Whats the upside of giving Beard time? Versus the downside? Trev clearly doesnt have the balls and instincts needed to be a visionary AD. He seems more like a pencil pusher. Why you dont hire an ex-jock in todays modern times.

Hell....lie directly to his face and tell him you are giving another great candidate the same offer. Your choice. 1st who signs? Gets the deal. Put pressure on HIM! Quit being such a freaking *****.

I seriously feel I could have landed Beard under the same situation if I was A&Ms AD with Trevs resume behind my name. At the VERY least, I would have told Beard....no and changed the entire narrative. Trev should have seen this coming a mile away.

Very disappointing.

My favorite thing is Aggies saying they love Buzz and he changed the culture here. He didn't. The culture is the same. He had his own culture and he took it with him. At some point, people will recognize coaches are all mercenaries and they don't GAF about the fans. Some are just better at hiding it.

They won't sign under those terms. What makes you think they will?

Do you accept take it or leave it offers?

You get a reputation of doing that and people stop returning your calls.

Complete Idiot-The birth mother did not die. I don't know much about the birth mother, but Jim had primary custody of Buzz. As I understand, Buzz was about four when Jim and Connie got together. Not sure of the timeline between Greenville and Van Alstyne for Jim. Reading between the lines, I assume both Jim and the birth mother were pretty young. Jim and Connie raised Buzz and his half-sister in Van Alstyne. The birth mother did have interaction with Buzz during the process.

Did Trev put a gun to his head and tell him the contract is either getting his signature or his brains on it?

If not then maybe he should try that next time.
