Why isn't Saturday sold out yet

I know basketball attendance tends to snowball throughout a successful season, but the first top 10 matchup in Reed Arena history deserves one of the top crowds in Reed Arena history. A good number of affordable tickets are left on the 12th Man Website for a Saturday night matchup vs a top team.

If they aren't sold I hope the student crowd is big enough that it necessitates overflow into unsold seats.

Let's go 3-0 in the toughest conference in America.

I guess the games are not exciting enough…

I think most casuals legitimately think every game is sold out and the only way to get tickets is on seat geek or something.

All that is left from the TMF is upper level seats.

But main reason demand isn't super high? It's Alabama. Despite the ranking by their name, to casual fans it's not a big time opponent. If it were a Kentucky or Tennessee demand would be higher.

Part of the same reason (in addition to the weather) that our game @ OU wasn't a hot ticket. Oklahoma fans aren't going to get super excited about playing Texas A&M in hoops, no matter the ranking.

I mean it's obviously anecdotal, but I've just legit heard people talk about wanting to go to games but "prices are too high on stubhub."

Because of football and to some degree baseball last year, I think people just think tickets are usually sold out for any decent game, they check stubhub (most of them definitely don't know we're on seatgeek now) and see the prices are pretty high and they don't even bother to check if tickets are available the regular way.

I did at least get an email earlier saying tickets were still available for this game, so that helps.

That said, I'm not worried about attendance the rest of the season. It's going to be great.

I'm speaking more on demand than attendance -- we're a Top 15 team playing a weekend home game, it's going to be a great crowd. That's been the formula for two decades in Texas.

And yes, customers over the last two decades grew accustomated to look at the secondary before checking the primary (due partially to availability, partially due to the experience being better) -- which is why a lot of the primary is listing directly on the secondary nowadays.

More background factors here besides weather and visitor brand name. The unfortunate fact is that OU does not have a strong basketball fan culture among adult/young adult fans. They drew crowds about a decade ago when they had some good teams, but most of their crowd is made up of parents bringing kids or older fans. Obviously they didn't have students back in town yesterday either.

For a sense of scale, the listed attendance last night was 7.6k. I can promise that the arena (capacity ~11k) was not more than half full. I would bet no more than 5K actually there. And all of this is after their athletic department sent out emails to local school systems yesterday offering $10 GA tickets for teachers. That's a top 20 matchup with roughly equal attendance to our HCU game.

That game wasn't a hot ticket because OU doesn't have much steady support for basketball.

I'll be there, just like for the t.u. game, coming back from DFW where there's snow all over our roads right now. No reason Reed shouldn't be packed to the brim.

If it had been a weekend game against #10 Kentucky or #10 Kansas with OU ranked #17 it would been packed.

OU support is no different than most others in the South/Southwest (including ours) -- it's dependent on a HIGH rank and/or playing a name team. That's just the way it is for college hoops in the region.

I think the oficial capacity for Reed Arena is 12,999. I think rest of our SEC home games will be sold out .
That is based on tickets sold and not butts in seats. So there will likely be a few empty seats for some games.

Frankly if you are in the upper deck, you are pretty far from the court and player sizes are harder to tell.
You can actually see the game better on tv from home or watering hole than high up at Reed.....but you miss out on the confiscatory concession prices and the ever popular dj. Now Hulabaloo and the dance team are real pluses!

Ha we drew over 11,000 for a Saturday afternoon game versus ACU.

I'm not worried about attendance this season.

I actually like the upper deck seats at Reed for watching the game. I just think it's dumb it even has an upper deck instead of being a bigger single bowl arena.

One of my biggest criticisms of ADs is not promoting sports attendance. They can make a huge difference. College Station on a Saturday in January should make a Men's College Basketball Top 10 matchup a no brainer must go event if you can. The Dr. Peppers should be flowing like the Mississippi. The hot dogs should be flying off the rollers like it's Coney Island on the Fourth of July. There should be "fan friendly" pricing on all those items. Absolutely no parking fees. Make Reed Arena Great Again.

I'm not worried about it, my post is more an information seeking post as to why people haven't been knocking the doors down to get tickets and hopefully a PSA to fans (especially ones that are very excited after last night and last Saturday) that tickets are still available and that you can most likely afford them.

Would rather see a 13k crowd than an 11k crowd, even though the 11k crowd is still great for what we would normally see in January.

They would have to have good hot dogs for this to be the case. I swear those things are so nasty!

Idk the ones I see at Coney Island on the Fourth of July look pretty nasty to me. Seems like an accurate comparison.

Did my part. Bought 5 upper level seats from the 12th man this morning. I was surprised that so many upper level seats were available directly from the ticket office.

Horrible take. Most of our upper deck seats would still be prime seating at the Toyota center.

Well, to be fair, I have never seen those either. I just assumed they would be better than the junk that 44 Farms sells at games.

Its been a while since I have been 2nd deck at Reed, but anything is better that the camera angle OU had.

Only 140 left through A&M - all last few rows of the 2nd deck. Cheap though at $29 a pop.

Upper deck sideline seats on the first row are my favorite seats in the arena. I miss being able to go to games and having those season tix.

Kind of sad that this is the first top ten match up in history.

But thats because we pour all our money into our championship winning football program.

I bought upper deck season tickets for $125 person. Kids love going and the view isn't bad. I am closer to the rail so that is a plus.
