Maybe without the OCD and with more NIL.

And a lot more postseason skins on the wall.

Nails it. And this applies to a ton of club sports and the parents who constantly move their little billy and Suzy around every season because their team they are on just isn't good enough for them.

For sure. What's interesting about Hurley is it took him 5 seasons at UCONN to get his first win in the ncaa tourney. And since that first win he hasn't lost an ncaa tournament game

Compare is already DOA as Hurley won it all in year 5. Not just round 1.

It may sound like Buzz but is Buzz not offering a boat load of offers from the TP?

Hence the fact that he said Hurley hasn't lost since. I don't think his post was trying to compare to Buzz. I took it simply as once it clicked it really clicked.

This is correct. I was not trying to say Buzz can do at A&M what Hurley has done at UCONN. Just simply pointing out what Hurley has done, but I can see how Gap took it that way with OP saying Hurley sounds like Buzz.

I've posted this before, but seems relevant to this thread and talk of Hurley and his philosophies.

I think Buzz can still prioritize toughness and defense, but you can't do it at the expense of offense.

Their offense is Beautiful Game level, but it's not like their defense was just along for the ride. From halftime of the Alabama game through the end of the natl camps game they looked like they had 4 Gary Paytons and a young Tim Duncan back there

Correct. I'm just saying you can find good offensive players who also want to play defense and are tough. The game is turning more offensive every year

Bingo. You have to put together a team that can pressure all five spots on offensive end.

Hurley is still prioritizing toughness and defense. UCONN was an elite defensive team. It is just they can also shoot too. Basically Hurley prioritized everything

What Hurley probably said to himself was this, "I can pull nearly any recruit I want, so I'm going to find more shooters and make them tough."

We cannot pull any talent we want, so our philosophy has to be a little different. There's only a few guys who can do everything at an elite level out there to build a team.

Great coaches adapt to a changing game. I'm a big fan of Buzz but it's OK to say we need more pure shooters on this team. I'm not sure we have that on campus. I hope he adapts and takes the program to the next level.

It's easier to teach a kid to be tough than to shoot.

I think Buzz, Kennedy, Turgeon, and Gillispie prioritized defense because they had to at A&M. Gillispie and Kennedy talked about scoring under 7 seconds. Buzz actually accomplished it on occasion this year but it exposed shooting consistency issues across the team. He defended that with an emphasis on orebs.

Garcia as a modern Rodman opened up Buzz's offense and allowed his teammates to loosen up.

They need to play how they did in the SEC tournament and Round 1 of the NCAA tournament and improve the defense a little. Having Manny figure it out helped us play like that. I think it is also immensely helpful to how Wade plays. Gives him more open looks and be shoots better.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Agreed, but Buzz has fielded shooting teams before at VaTech and they were a bucket from beating Duke for an elite 8 berth. All that just to say that he's demonstrated before the value of shooting in his system.

Even one guy who could consistently nail the corner 3 would expand so much in our offense

I think Jace was supposed to be that guy but he hasn't got there, at least not yet.

There's probably got to be a little of each and then you improve year over year - the catch would be keeping in them in your program before they transfer elsewhere.

Only thing slowing Buzz down is NIL. Sad that A&M with $275M annual AD revenue and BMAs galore can't fix this.

Talent is available and we have a coach who can win with it. Hopefully we figure it out.

We need a Buzz myth tracker.

1. Buzz doesn't use NIL
2. Buzz uses practice time to teach kids to change a tire

There are lots of ways to play the game. We weren't great shooters this year, for example, but in terms of offensive efficiency compared to the rest of the country we were better this year on offense than any year since 2007 and possibly even our second best offense all time.

In the "only two games that mattered" (wink according to some) we scored damn near 200 points and one of those games was against the best defense in the country.

Buzz is not a defensive coach. He may be an effort coach, but hes not a defensive specialist like some make him seem, like, at all.

Recruit athletic shooters. It's not complicated. A&m has prioritized only the first part in recruiting. When hef is your starting designated spot up guy heading into the season, you've failed in building a roster for the modern game.

I forget. Is UCONN a football or basketball school. What is that they prioritize with every dollarr??
