Attack the basket at will. Get their big guys in foul trouble Early. Hit free throws. Take the game to Tenn, don't react to what they are going to do. Get them out of their game Early, and don't stop attacking the basket!

I actually think this is a bad idea. Certainly we need to find angles and attack when we can, but we can't just recklessly drive into Tennessee. We're bad at shooting near the basket anyway, and they're exceptionally good at defending it.

This game comes down to a few things:

1) Officiating - Tennessee is one of the more physical off ball teams in the country. If the refs let them grab and hold Taylor and Boots all over the court we're going to have a really hard time on offense. We also need consistency on how they call fouls on rebounds. Barnes teams also consistently set a lot of moving screens in the middle of the court. We tend to get caught on screens anyway, so we need them to call this or Tennessee is going to get open looks.

2) Carter's shooting - Against Tennessee's defense, one of the nation's elite, we absolutely cannot have multiple guys on the court that the defense doesn't even have to defend. We're already going to have one with Solo (hopefully, more on that soon...) out there. Carter is going to get some open looks, and he needs to knock them down like he did last night. If he hits a couple early, they have to adjust, and then that should give Wade and Boots some space to work.

3) Solo's fouls - Solo has to understand how important he is to this game and make better decisions on when to get hyper aggressive. Maybe don't foul when you don't have position on an offensive rebound and save it for when Aidoo or Knecht has a clean look at the basket. Other than Zeigler Tennessee is a big team and we need Solo's length on the floor. I assume he would guard Knecht late in the game.

Having Solo available to guard Knecht in crunch time is definitely critical. On the off chance that we aren't able to blow them out, that is.

I strongly disagree. Buzz is not a miracle worker, and we don't have anyone beside 4 who can Consistently shoot the ball. Boots has been attacking the basket- not recklessly, but it's gotten him into a better groove. Hoping we suddenly shoot lights out against the best team we will see this year is Not a strategy. It's a risky gamble. I've said it before and I'll say it again- the time to get better at shooting was in the off season. Not a month before the tournament.
"We're bad at shooting near the basket", and we are Horrible from the perimeter/beyond 15 feet.

This will turn into a Penn State type game from last year's 1st round if we don't slow them down. We only have one #4. Tenn has a multitude of guys to beat us. Reed needs to be the best it's been all year- that's doable.
bobinator

We're horrible from the perimeter but we're even more horrible at getting our shots blocked and Tennessee is in the top tier at blocking shots. Nobody is saying we need to just fire away and hope for the best, but the truth is we're not going to beat a team like Tennessee unless we knock down the open looks we do get.

That doesn't mean we take a bunch of contested threes and just hope they go in, but it also doesn't mean we just "attack the basket at will." Our drives need to be under control, which is something we've struggled a lot with at times this season. Especially Boots, who I'm sure Tennessee will defend a lot better than either Florida or Missouri did.

There's a few things that just absolutely have to happen for us to have a chance which is why I didn't even include them in my three things because they're so foundational to our team that we need them every game, but obviously this is a game where Taylor needs to make his money. He above anyone else needs to know when he should drive, when he should shoot, etc.

I usually got to 1-2 games a year being in Dallas area. Last year I chose Alabama well before they were best in SEC and it worked out to be an incredible game. I hope this year is the same

Wildly inconsistent of late and extremely emotional on the court after picking up a foul or not getting a call.

Total of 7 rebounds and 7 fouls in the last 3 games.

bus driver! Rick Barnes Tenn coach was at Tu in 2007 when he stood up to protest a call.

Ags then gave him the "sit down, bus driver" yell! He took exception to this and called the

yell "junior high" and said that next they would be using the "Water melon" yell. Sure enough,

next time he was at Reed, Ags gave him the "water melon" yell.

The yell started in the 40s when all teams travelled by bus. The bus driver in uniform sat at the

end of the visiting team's bench and stood up when his team made a good play. Our yell leaders

then came up with the 'sit down, bus driver" yell. This wa covered by the Houston Chronicle 2/1/2019.

Looks like one of Tennessee's biggest weaknesses is that they foul a lot and give up a lot of free throws. That's obviously very dependent on how the officials are calling the game so not something you can really rely on.

Biggest mismatch in our favor is that their defensive rebounding is pretty average. Hopefully Andy/Solo and the team can exploit that all night.

My biggest concern is the large amount of our offense that comes from boots and Taylor driving the ball.

Getting near the rim trying to finish over tall, athletic players or getting in the lane and kicking it out for a jumper is going to be very difficult against this tennessee defense.

There's no reason to be concerned, this is a take a swing game. On paper they're clearly better than us, but we're at home, anything can happen in college basketball, and we have Wade Taylor and they don't.

UK January 2022 we had over 14,000, LSU was 13,888. I was there for the UK game and it's hard to believe we can stuff more students in there.

This game will come down to how the refs call the game imo. If the refs allow a lot of contact we're hosed because they are simply bigger and more physical.

We also will have to hit open shots at better than 40% to win imo. We can't expect to significantly outboard them.

Sure , attack the rim if it's open but it likely won't be open except in transition or if we spread them out by hitting some early shots outside
bobinator
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Some of the folks that hate when Wade plays a little loose might want to drink more than usual before the game or something because this is gonna be one where our man just has to cook. He's gonna try and get fouled and they're not going to call all of them and that's probably going to lead to some pretty bad looking turnovers, but that's probably what it's gonna take.

Last year he was only 4 of 11 from the field against this team and had five turnovers, but he was also 16 of 17 at the free throw line. That's why we won despite it being a typical shooting day, we were 39% from the field and 27% from 3.

Don't bother looking at the box score to see who else was key to winning last year, it's not important. We're not focusing on that right now.

Knecht is a bigger problem. Not just becuase he's one of the nation's best players, but his height is an issue for us. Makes it even harder to close out on him.

If the game is close we should just keep Solo on the bench until the last five minutes or something and then let him go nuts.
