Good article from the Eagle. I wasn't aware of the connection Buzz has with the interim coach HC at Ole Miss, Win Case.

Quote:

"I hired him and I was so thankful that I did, because even though he was a student manager, I looked at him like an assistant coach," Case said. "The players absolutely loved him. I just knew right then that he was destined for greatness."

Anytime a recruit came on campus, they sent the prospect with Williams for the day. As Case remembers it, Williams would not take, "No" for an answer.

"Buzz would be gone with him all day and he'd come back and the kid was ready to commit to us, or he had that kid sold, the parents and everybody," Case said.

----------

Oklahoma City University would win a national title during their time together in the 1995-96 season, but it was the impact Williams made on Case during a less successful first year that sticks with him to this day. Results weren't going in their favor and Case said he felt the pressure of fans mounting against him. In the midst of a losing streak, a player called a timeout the team didn't have while holding a narrow lead and another game got away from the team. Williams showed his loyalty in those moments, Case said.

"He stayed with me that night until about two in the morning and just consoled me," Case said. "That's why I say I'll always have love for this guy. He was always, always there for me. Always. I can't say enough good things about Buzz Williams, I know that."

----------

Just as the day he first hired Williams, Case said he continues to believe his former mentee is destined for even more success.

"I sit back in the distance and I'm just amazed at what he's accomplished and I just think that the sky's the limit," Case said. "Eventually, at some point, Buzz is going to win a national championship and hopefully it's there at Texas A&M."

it amazes me how every compliment buzz receives they always start with what type of person he is. think about that, buzz is a pretty damn good coach, with some skins on the wall and yet very rarely does anyone start complimenting buzz coaching first. it's always about him as a person.

you don't see that very often in any profession. we are lucky to have buzz as our coach.

In addition this, it seems like the stories about buzz haven't changed in the 30 years he's been coaching. During his rise from the lowest levels of college basketball to the top of the sport, he appears to have remained the same genuine, humble, hard-working guy - a true accomplishment that not all coaches attain.
