No need for you to be like Turgeon, then…

Maryland is 6-10 since then.

Turge got tired of coaching.

226-116 (.661) with 6 NCAA invitations in 10 full seasons, including last 6 of 7 seasons.

We'd take that!

MT is a very good coach. He kept us in tourney consistently but just couldn't get us to next level. He was a good recruiter. He was frustrated with support and came from programs where basketball is king and he knew it would never be that way here. I never had any anymosity about his departure. Seeing how quickly Kennedy crashed the program made me appreciate him much more. Take a look at the 11 seasons since he left. What BCG and MT were able to accomplish here is very impressive.

Yes if he was interested I'd hire him back.

This is so wild to me. I'd much rather try to find the next great coach than hire a coach that's definitely, at best, pretty good and got fired midseason at his last job.

I wonder if getting that was as awesome as he imagined it to be.

Bob has th right way forward: find th next great coach.

MT at press conference said he was resigning and hoped Maryland would find a good replacement
for him.

Didn't sound like he was fired by U of M.

Well he never really got it. Maryland is a place where basketball is held in higher regard than football and he did a good job there. Turge was a good coach but never reached the level where he could get the top job at a basketball Mecca like Kansas, Kentucky, UNC etc. but I would guess that he was happier at Maryland than here.

December is a very odd time of the season to fire a basketball coach.

MT was a below average coach but an excellent recruiter. His teams consistently underperformed their talent levels. He had a number of NBA players on the roster at A&M and his production was no better than the person he replaced. He made it to the Sweet 16 one time in 13 seasons after leaving Wichita St. despite the talented rosters he fielded.

I actually think this is exactly the opposite. I think he was a below average recruiter but a good coach.

He advertised schemes he would put in place that he could not successfully run as did Kennedy. That doesn't sound to me like a good coach since in theory such a coach would nit offer a scheme that didn't fit his players…

I'm not saying he was a brilliant offensive mind by any stretch. Just overall a good coach.

11-14 on the season. Lost 10 of last 13. Terps Talent level can't seem to win in the big10. Looks like an off-season overhaul is in order, players will be looking for new landing spots in the portal. Just how much of the current situation is because of poor coaching or just not measuring up on the recruiting trail will be found out by the new coach.

Wouldn't want Turge back, but he was a good coach.

MT was a good coach and good recruiter but not great at either. His record demonstrates a high level of consistency. After seeing the past 11 years I would take that right now.
