I don't think I'm stepping too far out on a limb saying that yes, if we win out and win the national title, Kennedy is probably coming back next season.

They don't have to win out ... this team has the talent to get hot in the SEC tournament; wreck shop and get to the semifinals. If that happens, BK will spin that narrative to at least get another year.

I was waivering a bit in my long held opinion that BK will never be forced out and that he would only leave when he wanted to leave. A 1-8 SEC start caused me to think that possibly we were at the tipping point and that he could not escape this kind of free fall.

But these two wins have resurrected the apologists and the " if only Billy could have another year" crowd.
SEC Network does a 30 minute puff piece on Billy and Mary Kennedy and how this is not a job to Billy but a ministry ( I wonder if he'd like to tithe about $3 million back to the church). Travis Brown of the Eagle writes an entire article today about how the team is finally following their low key leader. John Thornton talks about the players are finally listening to BKs offensive game plan and executing " his offense".

So yes, I think 2-3 more SEC wins and possibly a first day SEC tourney win , gives all those Billy " Hes Really A Nice Guy " people another one year contract extension so that he can continue his " ministry". For my part I just won't waste any more money on 2019/2020 season tickets because the only thing Woodward has mentioned is that he and Poor Billy have agreed that they have to " connect" with the fans like BCG did.

2 would tie for the most wins we've had in a conference tournament since the Reagan administration. BK's done it once (2016) and Turgeon did it once (2008)

He's going to stay and get an extension, bros. It won't be a 1-year extension, because that would be the same recruiting kiss of death as no extension. It will be a 2 or 3 year extension.

The late season improvement in effort + the weak back end SEC schedule + the non-basketball related departure of Chew + an injured Gilder + a "rebuilding year" after the Davis, et al exodus = just enough to stay

We beat two of the worst theee conference teams. Let's see how this team looks against LSU and MSU on the road. With the suffering we have put up with this year we DESERVE a new coach.

Does anyone really feel like Bk with be coaching is in 4-5 years? I don't...why take a gamble on giving him another season when he's not your long term guy anyways.

now if we finish the second half of conference play on an uptic I can actually see the SEC tourney giving up favorable matchups until a semifinal or eve final game but I put our chances of getting that far only at about 10% or so.

Agree that any extension cant be 1 yr, and will be 2+ yrs.

Something else to look for will be the local media reporting that this extension does not have a bad buyout . This will be pure spin put out by the SID and we wont really know about the true buyout until someone here on forum 7 submits a records request for the actual contract details in early 2020.

It's an extremely unlikely eventuality but if it did happen then it probably would save BK's job.

Would not fire a hmbb coach with a 10-8 conference record one yr after a Sweet 16 appearance and with a short roster even if the short roster were his 100% on his shoulders.

This board maybe has entered a state where a win is more likely to cause anxiety than a loss.

Look, the last 2 wins were nice credit to the coaching staff and players that they clearly haven't quit and started mailing it in, but they still were wins against 2 teams that are a combined 4-18 in the SEC. The only thing we've maybe shown thus far is we might be the best of the bottom four teams who will having to be playing the first day of the SECT.

Let's see what happens the next few games now. We could for example drop the next 4 and be sitting at 3-12 going into a game @Vandy.

To me they'd be overachieving expectations finishing 3-4 only because my expectations are pretty low. They are capable of playing really well - KState for example but for every KSt game there are 2
Or 3 LSU / Texas Southern type performances mixed in. Not consistent.... not consistently well prepared.

I don't think it's anxiety. XL is the only person who is teetering on the brink. I think we're just BAS and are resigning ourselves to what history would likely predict. None of us wants to see more losses

We should all know by now that extensions aren't what matters - buyouts are.

But much of that is overblown anyways - for the somewhat small subset of coaches that would need to be negatively recruiting against us, I doubt many will be using the "well are you sure that coach will still be there next year?" when they could just as easily pose the question in regards to health.

Or even ignore that altogether and ask "are you sure you want to go play somewhere you'll maybe make the tournament once while you're in school?".

Truthfully, I think there is only 1 win on the schedule. 4-14 and 11-19 just won't cut it.

Say they beat Vandy, Bama and split Arky and USCe, thats a 6-12 conference record and 13-17 overall. Is that good enough? I don't think it is. Eventually, you run out of excuses.

That is exactly how I see the remaining schedule playing out.

Most of the teams we have left on the schedule actually have something to play for (NCAA, NIT). Texas A&M will be playing to get to 5 or 6 conference wins... not the same motivation.

To me it's not even about W's and L's. It's about an 8 man roster.

After watching the SEC Inside video on BK and the team - the reason for our struggles are more clear to me. Coach needs to create some sort of basketball ministry and move on from college coaching. He doesn't seem healthy. It's an inspiring story but its time to part ways for both sides sake.

The wild swings of emotion on this board is interesting to watch. A week ago posters were saying A&M wouldn't win another SEC game. Now the question is what happens to Kennedy if he wins them all.

This team will probably win 5-7 SEC games and that won't change what will likely happen at the end of the season.

If that's the case Hop, then he will "retire" and take the balance of his contract with him. We'll see.

A week ago you were saying that the decision had already been made (and making virtue signaling posts telling people why they should stop talking about firing the coach and talk about the players or the weather or anything but BK). Today you are hedging a bit and only saying that a change will likely happen. Not really a huge deal, but when you're mocking "the board" for changing week to week you might want to make sure you aren't guilty of the exact same thing.

A bit harsh.. Everything is a hypothetical until it has already happened. I mean, as unlikely as it is, there is still a chance they could win a lot more than what any of us think. He's just making an observation, and I was almost thinking the same thing.
